Hasek's "Cross"
In game six of the Detroit - Colorado game there was a shot taken that hit Dominik Hasek's blocker and went sraight up in the air. He lost sight of it and automatically went back into the net with his hands covering the top corners and his feet covering the bottom corners. The anouncer said it was called a "cross" I don't think a cross is in the shape of an "X" Anyway I think I might have seen him do it once before but has anyone here ever had to do that? I'd feel pretty bad if I let the puck come down, hit me in the back, and go in, but I wouldn't feel as bad as the Patrick Roy "phantom" glove save thats gotta suck!

When I was getting used to my current blocker I would pop pucks straight up all the time. I'd kind of look around. Everyone would stare like I has something in my teeth and then suddenly chear as the puck came down into the net behind my back. Maybe I should try "the cross"

That always happens to me, too. Since I'm so short, I always have to reach up for high shots, then they always end up hitting my blocker and defliecting behind me into the net. I'm going to try that the next time it happens.

Despite an occasional brain spasm, (e.g. Forsberg's goal) Hasek does have a remarkable understanding of where the puck is likely to go and how do cover.Snow angel is another such block. He builds his coverage from the bottom up and the center out. When players are rushed, that is where they are most likely to shoot.
An X is certainly a cross. Literally, a cross is two lines crossing, be they vertical/horizontal or diagonal. The Christian cross derives from a Roman cross looks like a lower case t, a Hebrew cross looks more like an upper case T, and many crosses , German or the Scot Cross of St. Andrew, look like an X.
I don't know where you live, but around here we have lots of sings like
"Deer X-ing. (for cross-ing)"

Tartan, that would explain alot, especially when I'm X-ing my legs when I have to pee.
Or when I'm .-ing my I's and X-ing my T's.
But is "Crossing my T's" be the correct statement? The lines aren't really crossing, they're intersecting. Aren't they?
AAAAGGHHHH!! I think I just had vapor lock of the brain!

Did anyone see that special on the NHL network with Manny Legacy? They showed alot of Hasek saves from different perspectives.
He makes it look so easy at times.

I think that "Xmas" is basically a translation. Christmas from Christ Mass for celebrating the birth of Christ which in turn goes to Cross for which he was crucified on so subsitute the Cross with X.
Xmas.
Get it?

People use "X" instead of "christ" in XMAS is b/c of religious and or belief -reasons not b/c it being a cross.

The "X" in "Xmas" derives from the Koine Greek spelling of the word "Christ".
The Greek spelling is "Xpistos".
The "X" is the Greek letter "chee" which is equivalent to the sound of the English dipthong "ch".
(Incidently, the "p" is the Greek letter "roh" which is equivalent to the sound of the English letter "r".)
So, the "X" in Xmas stands for the Greek letter "chee" in the Greek spelling of Christ.
