i use to use a slide board to improve my stride before i played in the net .. i am thinking about using it again to improve my half & butterfly save motions. ( post to post type motions) will i have spray silicone on my leg pads and how do you attached you leg pags so that you pratice all that butterfly stuff on the dry-land .
also how big do you thing a slide board should be the full six feet of the net or 4 feet ( i am going to make a new one that will be at least 4 feet wide) .. any ideas..

You may have already done this, so if you have, forgive me, but just type "slideboard" in the search column. There was an excellent post on slideboards, and how to go about making your own.

I plan on making one for my son and for me. As far as spraying your pads with silicone? I would guess that may not be a good idea. I am still trying to fashion a set of covers for my sons leg pads. I would guess that something nylon would work well. Maybe a couple of old practice jerseys?

I like your idea about dryland butterfly training. Ice time around here is scarce, and I really don't want to ruin a set of leg pads doing drills on a basement floor.

If synthetic ice were not so expensive per square ft. I would throw a 10 x 10 sheet down, but @ $15-$17 sq. ft., that's pretty pricey.

3ft x 7ft should be a pretty good size board, plenty of room for side to side drills! I'll try and update you on the pad covers, that is if I can make this idea work!

May I make a suggestion,

Try doing your dryland drills with in-line skates and pads. I found it was much easier to do drills without in-line skates, but it wasn't very realistic. Part of getting down quickly is getting off your inside edge and over coming the friction of the blade. If you just do the drills with slide board booties, you have none of that.

Regarding pads covers, I tried a few versions of homemade pad covers and even thought about having some made, but I found a cheap pair of "beater" pads was better than both. I got a pair of D&R LG55's (brown leather) in excellent shape for $30.00 US at my local Play it Again Sports.

Both excelent suggestions. My wife suggested the same thing to me the other day.... "going to Play-It-Again Sports", as far as using inline skates, one question for you, are you using inline goalie skates or just a regular pair?

I was also thinking of getting a pair of street hockey pads, but just the lookf of them ( they look very stiff) I don't know how realistic they would be?

Guess I'll take a look this weekend and see what the store has, hopefully I can get a deal as good as yours!

Here Comes another Plug:

Well I made an equipment rack using Timber's design which is available on his website, and it turned out damn good. What does this have to do with slide boards? well on his site he also has a slide board section, i dont know if any of you have been to his internet home to look around but here is "his" slide board page: http://www.infernosoft.com/community...lideboard.html

here is a thread that has links to other slideboard oriented sites:
