Ok, this sounds like poor save choices and bad angles.
If the shot is going glove side why are you going to deflect it with your blocker? you should just glove it and then either freeze it, or drop it and push it aside to one of your d-men. The shot that hit off your elbow is bad angles, if its coming from "straight ahead" you should be facing the puck, thus it hits you in the bread basket, groin area, or pads depending on where the shot was and whether or not you b-flyed. NOW the shot could have been deflected and then you would have just been lucky to get a piece of it with your elbow but I think with a little more work on angles and making better save choices you shouldnt have any shots deflect off you and into the net.
With that said, i am still working on deflecting pucks safetly to the corner with my blocker, I have been known to deflect a puck into the net off the blocker, it wasnt bad save choice nor bad angles but still sometimes a shot will deflect off you into the net. I would think spending a few more minutes during warm-ups/practice on positioning should improve your play.
Any of the more "grizzled" goalies out there wanna give their opinion?
