10 Goal Ruling???

Ok, here's a new one on me.......

Tuesday night we were playing a game in our roller league, and I must say we were playing VERY well. With about 5 minutes left in the third we had just scored our 10th goal! (The other team - 0 ) So as we were lining up to take the face off, the ref says- You guys have to play with one less player now. We're like WHAT! He says yeah, once you get a head by 10 goals you have to play with only three guys.

Now I've heard of calling the game, you know, kind of a mercy rule or what ever, but never anything like this.

Well right off of the face off we walk in and score so it's now 11-0. They finaly got one with about a minute left in the game.....there goes my shut out!

Anyone ever heard of this rule?

The league that I play in is a little different; when a team is 8 goals ahead the other team gets another skater. So they skate 4 on 5, which really doesn’t bother me because if were up buy 8 goals I’d rather get some more shots because I was probably getting board.

Shut outs are rare in roller hockey, and this is why, along with many other things.

Yeah, I think that I'd rather see 5 on 4,than 4 on 3.

You are right about getting board, although I did see a couple of breakaways and two on ones. Good thing though, one of the teams that played right after us ( the worst team in the league ) asked me if I could stick around and play for them because their goalie didn't show up. (He probably quit! ) So I played the first period for them, and then got some one else to play the rest.......If I didn't get home pretty soon there would have been a good chance my wife would have tried to castrate me!

By the way......I didn't let up any goals in that one period either!

( I think I sprained my arm patting my self on the back! )

My rink used to be if you were up by 8 goals, it was a mercy. They then increased it to 10 goals. I've had guys on my team get up 9-0 in the first 1/2 and the play f*ck-around for the 2nd. Needless to say, not much D and there goes the shutout.

My league has nothing about that. We've gotten the score up pretty high before, and out of sportsmanship, we've stopped scoring and started playing more defensively. Our coach gets very mad at us if we run the score up.

One league 10 goal mercy, the other 10 goals behind gets an extra skater. I actually saw a team down by 20 get two extra skaters.

Yeah, well I got 10 goal mercy last night.

Inline league too. Then again, 2 minutes into the game the leather tore loose from the boot on my right skate (REALLY old Bauer Ice Skates converted inline with Labeda chasis), and we wound up taping the skate to my foot for the rest of the game. Lost all feeling in my right foot, and was getting no help in front.

Anyway...they called the game with 5:28 remaining in the third.

In my league, they stop putting up goals for the team that's ahead by ten, They don't give any extra players or anything, What is the deal with the Lofting rule? U can't put the puck higher then the crossbar? The rule sucks just as simple as that.

In my old inline league there was no mercy rule and I have never even heard of that other rule. That is why I was the proud recipient of scores like 15-0, 11-0, and the such.

Likewise I have never played in a league that pulled any such shenanigans. A ten goal lead meant the game was over and if you were lucky they would let you play out the remainder of the game time, without officials.

It sounds like something where the ref said to himself, I wonder if they'll believe this one....

I've seen a no lofting rule in a roller rink where they kept losing discoballs to pucks.

Mercy rules? No lofting? OMG, the more I hear about it, the more I am convinced that roller is the stupidest bastardization of this great game there is. You guys should all be ashamed of yourselves for playing it!

Enough is enough!!! Now smarten up, go get some ice skates, and start playing real hockey dammit!!

Hey, hey, the roller league I play in is just like ice, 'cept we only have 4 skaters out instead of 5 and that whole rollerblade thing. I actually find roller to be much harder than ice, with the lack of sliding when down, that whole super-light puck thing which results in overly-exaggerated (sp?) speeds on shots, and so on, but that debate has already been had
