Some idiot used ArmorAll on his pads!!
Tuesday night after the first period we switched ends, and as ususal I skate pretty hard from my bench to the net after are little between period break. Well I reach the edge of the crease and go to make an "arking/turning stop" and went down hard into the net. So I figure no harm done, I just hit a bit of sweat coming in..........that is untill I tried to get up! My wheels kept sliding out from underneath me. I was so mad at the goalie on the other end, I couldn't wait for the second period to end so I could give him a piece of my mind
I asked the ref if there was anything he could do, but he just asked me if I had a towel to wipe the crease with, I politly told him that I really didn't think that it would make a difference.
As the second period d r a g g e d on, I sort of cooled down a bit, and thought I'd give the other goalie the benefit of the doubt and skate down to the other end after the perod and see if he screwed up that crease as well. Mean while I was playing mostly a stand up style........just so I could stand up!
Well the second perod ended, and I bust but down to the other end taking great caution when I approched the crease. I checked it out......nothing, it was just as I had left it in the first period. (Good thing I didn't go giving the other goalie an ear full eh??)
I guess someone came up there for pickup, and just played on one end or something.
NOTE: Do NOT any type of ArmorAll or Silicone spray on your pads!!!!! Serious injury could result! (Like the other goalie coming down and beating you about the head......repeatedly!!! )

This would be really funny if it weren't so true... I've had similar experiences (not on the painted concrete I play on now, but at my former SportCourt rink). Like it wasn't bad enough that the rink was short (imagine the area from blueline-to-blueline was eliminated... that's how this rink is), but there was ALWAYS some IDIOT Armor-Alling his crappy used ice pads. Once that crap gets in the crease and on your wheels, you're done! I've found myself sliding into the net, or crashing into the boards while playing the puck as a result...
I actually saw one guy wiping the CREASE down with those new armor-all wipes. Claims it allows him to feel more like he's playing on ice. Yeah, right... Feel as I check for your cup with the paddle of my goal stick, loser....
A fellow 'tender has been known, at that rink, to smack the **** out of anyone found with any sort of Armor All container.

a goalie down here used to always coat his pads in talcum powder and before each game he'd go into the centre of the rink and proceed dropping, leaving the excess talc powder on the surface, much to the amusement of all watching at the opening face-off. and of course by the time he got to the crease all the excess powder was gone so he didn't leave any behind in the crease

This has been covered so many times before, but it is soooooo worth noting again.
I have a rule at the rink that I play at. Now, it's not the rink's rule, rather my own - but ALL the goalies know about it.
Put anything on your pads to make them slide more, you're getting run during your game. After I almost tore a groin muscle because some jacka$$ put silicone on his pads and played before me, my teammates are educated to know what to watch for, and they have agreed that if a goalie is caught doing that, he's getting a full on run during our matchup. Period. End of story.
After the first time, it has never happened again.

They're putting up a "Notice" on the scheduling board at our rink as well. Being good friends with the owner has it's advantages don't you know!

This actually happens? People have some nerve. I actually would never have thought of it, seeing as how I play on highway overpass-grade concrete. You could put six gallons of warm margarine on the crease and it wouldn't make much of a difference. I still slide around on my gut, though. I go through jerseys like Beezer.

Over-pass grade! I love it!!!!
There's a place around here that has an outdoor rink, and the base is asphalt. sounds fairly normal eh? Well they put a roll-on coating over it (light blue), but due to the nature of asphalt, it is still a very textured surface. The funny part is that you have amazingly good traction on it when skating out, better than spourt court and concrete with a roll-on coating...........but you still slide very well when playing goal........it's very wierd,.....but cool!

I'd like to get the county to put some of that out there, but first things first. We have been taking pictures of the surface andsending them to the county commissioners. It's so old it has potholes in it. Really. My friend broke his arm out there.

That makes me thankfull for what I've got around here: Two roller hockey rinks inside the same building (Concrete w/roll-on ), one roller rink with sport court, three ice rinks, and that one outdoor one. All of these are with in 10 minutes of my house!
It wasn't always like that, 10 years ago there wasn't anything!

They should still be asking that, given that they are watching the Thrashers play...
