Securing Nets to Floor
Finally have our rink up and running but still battling the problem of the nets moving every time they are bumped. I read some suggestions people had a few months ago but I can't find them. Any ideas? We have a sport court floor.
What brand of goals do you recommend? Thanks for the help.

Gator,
Congrats on getting the rink up!
I play on MateFlex (similar to SportCourt) using real ice nets. What the rink did was find some washers that fit up inside the posts of the net and bolted them right to the floor. There's about 3 or 4 under each post, which provides just enough of a "lip" to keep the nets in place without killing someone who runs into them.

Froggy, where I play they cut 2 round holes in the floor and inserted a foam pipe insulater inside the goal post. They work really well. The pipe insulation is just round black foam which you should be able to pick up at Home Depot etc. Of course get a proper size of insulation, so it won't jam up inside. It should be rather loose. I've found this to work the best of anything i've seen so far.

MikeEMike,
Do you happen to play at Center Circle or Inman? I noticed your location. I play at Center Circle & they do the same thing with the washers bolted into the floor. Works pretty good.
I also play at RexPlex & they don't have anything to secure the nets, it's so annoying because anytime someone bumps the goal or you make a close save the net, it moves off the lines. I keep mentioning that washer idea to them hehe.
Later!

Center Circle, Sunday night 5v5 Puck 'B' for the Bulldogs. I never liked playing at Inman, and only played there for a few pick-up games. Prior to Center Circle, I played in the dungeon that was South Amboy from the first session of roller hockey to the very last there. Ah, how I miss playing on the Roll-On floor there with ceilings so low that at least twice a season a puck would break a flourescent light tube above the floor, causing a 20 minute clean-up!
What team do you play for and on what night?

MikeEMike,
I play Sunday nights too at Center Circle, I'm on the Cougars 5on5 puck. We wear those lovely stylish powder blue jerseys. At least I think it's the Cougars my cousin keeps changing the name lol, not sure what he chose this season. Either River Rats or Cougars usually.
Haha I've never heard of that Dungeon place with the low ceilings, sounds interesting. I also play at Wallington the Inline Skate Club of America, and Thursday nights at RexPlex. Center Circle has the best rink out of all of them so far, it's a good size. RexPlex & Wallington are kind of small they play 4 on 4.
Later man!

Looks like we'll be seeing you on the floor then, unless you're in the A division on Sundays.
Powder blue jerseys? Oh man....I am sooooo sorry! Had I known, I would have told you to get there early to get a better selection. Keep your eyes out for the ugly Maroon Jerseys that we wear and you'll be sure to see me sooner or later.

Haha yeah we always get stuck with the worst color jerseys! We're actually working on getting our own team jerseys for all the different leagues finally. You can't miss everyone wearing 10 different shades of power blue right now. I usually wear my own one since they never give me a goalcut or big enough jersey to fit over the chest protector.
I think we are in "B" league too, I know we're definately not in the "A". Not sure my cousin runs it all, I just know to show up on Sundays hehe. I'll keep a lookout for the Maroon team, so I guess we'll be playing each other soon!
p.s. <------------------wonderful powder blue jersey look at icon LOL

I just checked my stats sheets and we played each other on 10/13 of this past year, and we pulled a 3-2 win over you guys. Didn't click when I looked at your icon that it was in the Circle. Now that I looked at it again, I knew we had played you before.
No idea when we face you again, since Mgmt. at the rink has decided to stop giving out schedules, but we shall indeed see each other soon!

3-2 not bad on our parts lol, come to think of it I remember you Maroon guys. You guys are pretty good.
Yeah what's up with the management, I heard Sonni got fired & they are trying to re-organize everything. They need to put out some schedules it's a pain waiting around on Sunday to find out last minute what time our game is & who we're even playing lol.
Well work is over nice half a day, have a good New Year's time to start drinking.

Sonny actually got hurt pretty bad in a tournament two weeks ago. Pretty much shredded the ligaments in his shoulder, so he's been out since then. Don't know if they fired him or not, but it wouldn't surprise me. Idiot Don doesn't know jack about hockey, let alone how to run a league. I told them they should put the schedules up on the website if it's an expense issue, but no one listens to me.
Have a good New Year's as well! See you on the floor!

This is a bit of a late post but the best way I've seen nets hooked down is velcro. It needs to be replaced often but it is dosen't really hurt the surface. Experiment with how much you need.
