Hunster, welcome to the board. great info here just don't ask what is better the mask or the combo set up ! Good luck with the roller coach. I'm not sure if you were asking for a goalie coach for you or for younger players.
what happened with our league is my son plays net (12u rec, 12u traveling, 14u traveling) and I was in the adult league. they didn't have a "goalie coach" so I asked if I could work with my son to help him out and two years later I have all the traveling teams goalies except the 17u and the high school. two places I found as good resources for coaches is in the adult league it looks like from your profile that you are already in it, the adult league that is. see if one of the other guys would be willing to help out and also we have some pretty good college club players that have been more then willing to help out for a home cooked meal and some beer money. just some ideas. the thing that has helped most with my game has been coaching the kids, because I've had to remember the small things to teach the kids that most of us forget over time to help them tie everything together, has helped me tighten up my game temendously. Also another gold mine of info is keeks download, scoring sheets and dvd's. even though it is written with ice hockey in mind the basics are still the same. hope it helps. have a great day

I guess my problem is that I started playing hockey late in life. I have no ice experience other than playing with buddies for fun. I got into roller hockey around 21.

Took me a LONG time to be able to move around the crease without losing my balance (both ice and roller). After playing for years now and becoming a decent goalie I want to get even better. The problem is that I am one of the top goalies in my laegue and don't think any of the other goalies would be able to help.

Part of the problem is roller hockey hasn't been around as long and there doens't seem to be many older guys who would be able to coach. I have considered getting ice coaching to help with things common to both ice and roller.

Hunster,

I am in a similar boat, I started playing hockey about 12 years ago (my age at that time was 20). I only played roller and got good somewhat quickly. What I started doing about 1 or 2 ago was playing ice in pick up. One of the rinks has a "learn to skate" where golaies skate for free. Ours has a former minor leaue goalie who works for the rink who coaches the goalies. It has helped my game considerably. Both ice and roller. IMHO any coaching is better than none.

BTW
Combos rock

I agree. I think any coaching should be able to help me.

I have to disagree with you about the combo thing though. Maybe cuz I play roller hockey and the puck just doesn't have the same impact.

I have seen Cloutier cut twice in one week with his combo. Besides that, masks look way cooler when painted.

Off topic a bit but I am surprised NHL goalies don't have more than one painted mask. I would prolly have 4 to 5 different ones.

most pros do have multiple masks, but just like with their gear they break in one and stick with till it need replacing.

There was a thread on herr a while back about someone who toured the Stars locker room when Belfour was there. he had 3 lids in his locker. one was still in plastic.

I think they need some personality.

They could use them at practice and break them.
