I suck at this game

So I'm finally getting to playing on a weekly basis and I'm getting schooled .. though usually the other tenders playing are getting schooled too but its no fun being a bad player. Just curious how long did it take for you folks to start feeling confident with your play our are you ever?? I enjoy the game and I don't mind putting in the time and effort to get good but for serious I suck

If you've been playing seriously for a year and you still suck, then you can worry. If not, just keep playing and keep trying to improve. It will happen, it just takes time.

Suckage....

Halo...
Under normal conditions "The amount of suckage is directly proportional to the amount of training and sweat expended"

Now what works for most.. pick one thing to work on each practice and DO IT. You will learn that over time.. you will get better.

Hey Halo:

I can attest, playing badly is not fun. I hadn't played for about 8 years before I strapped the pads back on. In my day I was a pretty good goalie then time warp.... I was crap .

I essentially had to re-learn the position, but after about 4 months of play I was back at the level (now likely better) that I ever played.

Just keep going, work on your fundamentals. Don't be afraid to ask questions of the other goalies that you play with. I'm sure that they would be more than happy to help you and make helpful comments on visible flaws in your game.

Also, if you haven't done so yet take a look at the instructional PDF that Keeks has put together. It is written for ice hockey, but there are great general goaltending tips in there. Really cool resource.

I did a search for you. It turns out that another user (Nightfall) has been kind enough to host it. It is a big download if I remember correctly:

Good luck

serious suckage

i know i always feel bad on days when i'm getting 'schooled'...this happens especially often in rollerblade hockey. VERY high scoring no matter what! I have to keep telling myself it's a different game than ice and as long as we win, i guess i wasn't totally sucking...for me anyway, rollerblade hockey is a humbling experience for any goalie. Just perseverence and practice, practice, practice

The first smart thing you have said!

Halo, are you normally an ice hockey goalie now trying roller?

For me I started off play ball hockey then went to roller. I was never a great skater and it took a long while before I was able to improve and play at a level I felt was where I should be. If you are an ice goalie playing roller you have a big adjustment. No shuffles, no sliding, no sliding b-fly, etc. You have to get used to no sliding and a game where offense is usually the main focus of the players. My league is 4 on 4, no icing, no offside, no defense (my team at least). High scores are just part of roller. It sucks sometimes but that's just the way it is.

Keep trying and you will adjust.

Good luck
