i also think that a puck is beter. when i think of playing with a ball i think of street hockey and people's first time playing the sport. hockey is a game with a puck. just like ice people should not play with a ball. it is also much easier with a ball.

I prefer the puck all around. Hated trying to coach young kids to play with ball. It's hard enough to keep their attention let alone having them chasing balls all over. Playing out I definately prefer the play and feel of a puck. Better control and more accuracy when shooting. Playing in the net I enjoy the puck much more.
For the middle level kids I like to mix the ball in on some drills to help them focus on puck control.

For serious competitive play, it's puck all the way. But for a lazy summer afternoon out on the schoolyard with my compadres, it's definitely ball all the way. Playing at night with the glow in the dark ones is very fun. Stay away from the ones that light up for a few seconds on impact, tho. If they roll away from you and they stop blinking, good luck finding it in the dark.

Puck all the way it keeps my GAA down hehe. Those balls even the ones w.the liquid in them make funny curves.

I am going to say Puck is the best, usually the best games for me to play in are with a puck (excluding European and National final games with a ball), the players with a puck usually have a higher skill level and less flukes happen in the puck.

Puck also makes for tighter games, my team who plays both has battered team 30-0 with a ball but the most we've got up to with a puck is 9-0.

Ball hockey is also dieing in this country, mainly because there is most options with a puck which include goign to play in canada and in Narch, while with a ball, there is only one option and that is to play in Europe and not play any further away from home.

Why would your team run up the score to 30-0?

Such things as the players wanting the leading scorer in the league title or if we were going to be tied and points and the league would go down to goal difference. There is no mercy rule here unfortunately.

Ill back woody up on that! nobody plays the mercy rule in this country! i like ball and puck, as team we are better with a ball but i think the galies prefer the puck for the whole " it doesn't swerve in the air" reason.

The roller hockey league I am in has a very small rink, so we have to use a ball. I find that if the ball isn't waterlogged then the curving will be reduced to a minimum. but the spin on a ball can be very forgiving and very unforgiving. Like one time I stopped a ball but it got out of my glove and was rolling around. The ball had enough spin to stay out of the net, in fact it had a wierd spin and rolled under me again (talk about luck). An example of bad spins are when they take a shot from the point and it curves or try having it roll out of ur glove, down ur body, and roll into the net. That happened to me once and i tried my hardest to kick it off me but i couldn't...

I would do anything to move to a puck. I think I need more practice with a puck so i will be more effective on the ice.

PUCK!! all the way..i've played twice with a ball...its too easy to roof for the players, and makes some crazy bounces....i've also had ppl shoot those smart hockey stick handling balls at me..they hurt when they hit me..i duno why..and they're scary...super hard plastic..i'd rather get hit with an ice hockey puck.. duno though why..i've been playing with a puck for a while and its worked out fine..as of curvyness-- 1. ball. 2. roller puck.. 3.. smart hockey ball.. 4. ice hockey puck (doesn't really curve unless it is one WEAK shot..) balls are for the driveway and street..and anyone under 6..

I've always used a puck. Even when we were kids playing street hockey we used the hollow red pucks but filled them with sand. -1975 (OW)

I would like to check out those Skater Hockey pucks....er um balls

Legend- What brand of puck did you switch to? Just curious, I've been looking at a way to make IDS pucks a bit heavier- but have been unsuccesful.

Thanks,
Rick

I agree with the majority of responses here. Puck is the way to go. Although it really depends on which puck you use as towhat kind of results you get. Some pucks are not much better than playing with a ball in my opinion. Like has been said before, hockey is a game that uses a puck, not a ball. Nothing wrong with it I guess, just doesn't seem like the same game to me.
