Sweat control
Another roller season is starting now that ice is over and I am looking for ideas on how you control the sweat that drips from your helmet. Don't even think about it on ice but on sportcourt floor it can be an issue. I sweat a lot and another league goalie drips by the buckets. Takes multiple towels to clean up the crease when we switch ends. The small sweatband in my helmet does little. So far the best I have come up with is a bandana.

Seriously, the best I can recommend is a rag to wipe it up WELL. I sweat a lot more in the summer, so just spreading the sweat thin and giving it more surface area to evaporate does the job. You really can't prevent it, so learn how to deal with it.

I agree with Leafer...the only thing you can do is bring a couple paper towels with you out there or use a rag. You also need to develop an eye for water spots before you slip in them...believe me, it's pretty painful when you're trying to glide across the crease and slip out on a tiny tiny spot of water.

IceCap. Cotton based skull cap that absorbs a tremendous amount of moisture and can be rung out between periods.

Gator,
Some questions that need answereing to help you with your problem.
What kind of helmet/mask do you wear? How big is the sweat band in your current lid? I can make a larger more absorbent one if you let me know what you are using.
Some answers to your floor problems. Get a chamois type towel instead of a terry cloth towel or papped towels. They dry the floor a lot better. the ones i use i get frompet supply catalogs. they don't get hard and crusty and last a real long time.

Yep. I wear an UnderArmour skull cap and have no problems. It fits much better than a bandana, too.

I've tried the UnderArmour version but found that it doesn't absorb any where near the amount of moisture that the icecap does. YMMV.

Thanks for the replys. Like the chamois idea. Regular cloth rags tend to smear and leave some residue behind. What and where do you find the icecaps?
BDD, my helmet is a Heaton and I have been using the thin and useless stock sweatband. About 8"x1 1/2"x3/16" from a quick look at it. I just switched back to the certified cage so I am still tweaking the fit right now.

Gator,
If you look for the post by Stolie regarding sweat bands for his jofa. you can see what mine are like. They dont just fit across your forehead. They come up from your forehead and go over the top of your head. this way the sweat is pulled to the top of your head and runs off tthe back and sides of tyour head. (at least that is the theory) the part the make contact with your head is a cotton terry cloth towel. under that is a layer or 2 of the chamois type material. The stuff I use can hold a ton of liquid. I can play in the high heat of Cincinnati summer and by the end of the third the sweat band is just getting soaked thru. if you ring it out between periods you would be fine.

One of the other goalies that is in my league uses a femine hygene pad. We laugh at him but he swears by them. It makes sense but I won't use them.....

I just use a WSI Roc Top, but I guess I don't sweat as much as you. I bought it for the wicking properties, as well as an easy way to keep my long hair from getting into my face over the course of game...

What I do is pull my mask up at every stoppage and wipe my face with a towel or the bottom of my jersey. Then when we get a long stoppage, I'll take my mask off, wipe my face and the sweatband with the bottom of my jersey or a towel.
Seems to work well for me.
