Yep, they're removable, as they're just laced into the side of the pad on the one side, and he has extra nylon webbing for the other side.

I imagine he'd be able to sell just the plates, but it may be difficult to retrofit to other pads.

They definitely help to slide in roller. One thing though, is that they don't cover the knee wing portion, which alot of the weight is on, so that part still grips.

It's most definitely better than nothing. It also helps to protect the pad from wear on those rough surfaces.

You might want to try using the soft side of industrial velco on the inside edges of your pads. It really helps them side on a sport court and protects against wear.

Let me know if you want additional details.

Matrix,

Is there any problems with the velcro if you play ice?

plate

I think that the plates help most for low post shots on a half b-fly. I took some video of myself and I could tell that the plate helped in the save. (Not to mention that you can feel it slide). But I definately wouldn't have been able to slide and make the save without the plate. They also work well for b-fly saves while you are moving sideways and backwards. I don't think the knee plates would help as much as get in the way. Unless you are making an aggressive b-fly save, the knee plate isn't needed.

i've seen a few posts on the velcro idea, i think i might give it a shot. the D on my team is horrible, and i end up with alot of breakaways, 2 on 1's, and 3 on 1's in which i need to slide across fast. and on the sportcourt forget it, i stick right to the ground hehe.

where could i get some of that industrial soft velcro, like home depot? what do you do, just run it along the inside edge of the pads? i have a set of DS Ultralights, would they work?

thanks for the suggestions!

The velcro tends to come off quite quickly when I play on ice due to the water. It usually lasts a couple of game before it needs to be replaced. Not really much of a problem for me anymore since I now play mostly roller.

The industrial velcro can be purchased at Home Depot or Walmart. Home Depot sells both white and black. You run it up parallel to the inside of the toe and pad. Look to see when the pad contacts the surface and place it there. I've found running it up above the knee really doesn't seem to help any. I use the soft side of the velcro.
