man the other night i went out to play some pickup hockey. there were so many of us out there 4 goalies even probally 20 or so skaters. we ended up picking out 4 teams 2 goals and yer gone. it was great i was so on my game. i just got doen watching this video "hidden secrets of inline goaltending". not the greatest video but man it really helped my game as far as movement. and one thing that it said todo contrary to what everyone has been telling me to do sense i started playing goal (not anyone on here though). stay square to the shooter. well the video said stay square to the puck makes loads more sense. so i started staying square to the puck at all tiomes. even when the puck was in the other end. man im finally seeing shots come in now. instead of reaction saves. there was one point my team stayed on for 6 games in a row. i had 4 straight shutouts. and earned ones mind you. and man my clears were great thanks to everyone on here who helped. i was playing so good people were calling me giggy. so for this long post im just stoked. i feel like ive finally had a beakthrough in my game.
yeah i had a nice clear where a opposing player was skating to get to the puck and yelling to try and "psyche me out" i cleared around boards to my own guy jut before he got to me.
i can just imagine how much of the net i must of been showing people before
well the video wasnt too bad
it was really desinged for someone just starting out in goal
but still ahs really helped me
my biggest complaint is that the goalie who does the video is massively a standup goalie. i am not. i ma a floppy butterfly goalie. i know i know its not the best way to play. and i really should stay up more. but thats my style. and during the section on the butterfly he says you should only use the butterfly when you are screened. i dissagreee. the video can be ordered off of hockey giant. so here are the different sections. most sections have good drills with them too.
1. differences between ice and roller
2. basic stance
3. goalie movement
t-push
shuffle step (this one really helped my movement)
telescoping backwards and forwards
4. stick saves
5. poke checks
6. skate saves (in my opionon you should never get in the habit of using this save)
7. butterfly (man this goalies butterfly sucks)
8. two pad slide
9. glove saves
10. blocker saves
11. angles
12. breakaways
13. screen shots
14. deflections
15. covering the puck
16. behind the net
17. 2-1
18. faceoffs
