Nah, my chest protector doesn't feel right when there's no jersey. My tips for staying cool:

1) wear the lightest weight jersey you can find (some of the roller ones have huge mesh for ventilation)
2) where a dangler instead of a throat collar
3) underarmour or similar under the gear
4) probably the biggest of all -- wear a white jersey and mask if in the sun

Any league I've played in requires you to wear a jersey...

if you have the money, go out and buy a helmet cage combo, i had one that i only wore for roller, and it helped me stay cool but i used a ball though. a roller puck probably wouldn't be a problem i, don't know though.

helmet wise I think is personal choice.I use a combo, some guys I play aginst use masks. If you are comfortasble with your head protection I wouldn't mess with it.

Forheat another trick I use is the cooling bandanas. You can get then at most outdoors shops or Wal-mart. It has a dried gel in it that when left in water "inflates" with water and maintains its shape for a couple of days. I hydrate then the night before a game. Then when I leave I pit a few of them in a freezer ziploc bag and throw them in cooler with some ice around them. If it is super hot i will change them between periods. I tie mine ounr my neck pretty tight and put thetied ends around back so it acts as a little bit of nek protedtion as well.

The under armour or any sweat wickng clothing is also a a great investment.

the summer sucks for roller! i lose about 10lbs of water hehe. and the place i play at is indoors, has no air, the fans are always off, and it's just a nasty humid sweaty heat! i hate it there but it's one of the best places around my area unfortunately.

they should sell air conditioned outfits with a coolant system...

I NEVER wear a jersey at pick-up or practice and if I'm playing two games, or back-to-back games or the AC isn't working I won't wear one during the game. I think it's 10 or more degrees cooler. Probably a little less than half the goalies regulary do not wear a jersey at practice or pick-up but I'm the only one who will occasionally not wear one during a game.

i never heard of or saw a goalie not wear a jersey, at my next practice i'm going to have to try it just to see how much cooler i stay. although it might feel weird hehe, the jersey usually holds my c/a down a bit. thanks for the tip!

Waering no jersey defnitely will make you cooler ...but it will put you at a disadvantage. the ball is less likely to keep going through you if it skims your C/A. If you jersey is on there will be more friction between the ball and C/A stop or deflecting it better.

Wearing a jersey will also take up more net for the shooter to look at. So it weill make you look bigger and have some effect on where the shooter places his shot.

Just my 2 cents.
