please help mom "get" this
Sean plays out when he plays roller, so I'm clueless on this stuff. He needs either new wheels or new bearings. The wheels look ok, but he says it feels like they drag or slow down when he's moving. I'm guessing that's bearings?!?
Anyway, the question is, what wheels do you get? Or bearings? I've been told lots of different things by places I thought would know (skater places), and now I'm more confused than before. Smaller wheels makes better turning? Larger wheels you go faster? More wheels you go faster? Softer wheels for indoor, harder for oudoor? What size bearings? Are there different ones for 'aggressive' skating and 'hockey' skating?
HELP HELP HELP
Thanks all - Pam/Sue

best bearings are SWISS Bearings.
best wheels.. it all depends what you like.. rink rats are good (they bubble quick).. Factory's are good..
there's tons of good wheels out there depends on what you wanna spend (like swiss said)
He may just needa lube oil clean the bearings.. check them out and see why their slow or not spinning

at the time i got my goal skates i had: suregrip 305 chassis for 2.88. i had kuzak zone 59 mm wheels for 1.99 each. go to hockeygiant.com for more info. i reccomend the kuzak wheels 59 mm bc they are cheap but very grippy and good. tthey also last long due to the formula in them. for bearings i say whatever, bc goales dont need super fast bearings so it doesnt really matter.
if you want rinkrat wheels, i have rinkrat crossbar 59 mm that i may be able to sell to you. but if you want budget and good wheels, get kuzak for sure.

Abec 3-5's theres not much of a difference. Get up to atleast Abec7 or 9's. Or like Oogs said Swiss. They are pretty cheap at Epuck.com.
Plus if they are draggin he might have alot of hair or dirt or tape in his wheels or bearings. Sounds nasty but thats how it is with inline.
Oh yeah there is a difference, theres the micro bearings, which i believe are the 688's and then theres the normal size ones are 608's but its usually stated that they minis or not

also:
Anyway, the question is, what wheels do you get? Or bearings?
I've been told lots of different things by places I thought would know (skater places), and now I'm more confused than before. Smaller wheels makes better turning? YES.. SMALLER =MORE AGILITY/CONTROL=LOWER TO THE GROUND
Larger wheels you go faster?YES
More wheels you go faster? YES BUT PLAYER SKATES MOSTLY HAVE 4 (UNLESS HE IS STILL YOUNG AND IN 3 WHEEL SKATES..)
Softer wheels for indoor, harder for oudoor? YES, THEY ARE GRADED BY THEIR SOFT/HARDNESS. SOFT= STICKY= GRIP ON THE INDOOR SURFACE. HIGHER THE NUMBER, THE HARDER THE WHEEL IS.
What size bearings? JUST LIKE KORKY SAID
Are there different ones for 'aggressive' skating and 'hockey' skating? DIFFERENT BEARINGS? MAYBE MAYBE NOT.. AGRESSIVE SKATES USE DIFFERENT SIZE WHEELS, SO IF YOU'RE TALKING MINI BEARINGS, I THINK ONLY HOCKEY SKATES USE THOSE.

I dont buy the whole smaller wheel vs big wheel agilty theory. The hi-low chasis handles that. I think you can be faster with a striaght Chasis, but the Hi low is bliss when it comes to manuvering, so i dont think wheel size factors into it.

korky the high low chasis is so great since in tight turns ect you are only on 2-3 wheels.
I used to play out till I got hurt. I always had slightly smaller wheels so that I could handle better.
You want to get hockey wheel for indoor play if he plays on any real hockey surface other than asphaul whether it is indoors or not.

do NOT get abec 9s if you are going to use them for hockey. the 9s are made for inline racing skates, and while they are extremely fast, they break down fast because they are made for performance, not durability. when it comes to wheels, you can usually find good closeout prices online, you dont need a 12 dollar labeda wheel to get good performance. and for bearings, i have found that off-brands, even if they say they are abec 7s, arent very good. find a known respected bearing, and you will get good performance, they;ll last awile, and you can find them pretty cheap if you look in the right places. good luck!

Not that I'm sure that your son wouldn't love new stuff, but it may just be that the bearings need to be cleaned, especially if he plays outside a lot and near sand) They sell cleaning supplies to clean the bearings and then you will need to relubricate the bearings. This may save you a lot on new equipment.
With regards to the ABEC stuff...years ago ABEC 5 was the highest. For your sons purposes, he will not notice the difference between a high quality ABEC 3 and a lower quality ABEC 5 or 7, so don't let him get wrapped up in the idea that an ABEC 9 will make him the fastest skater. As soon as they get dirty, they will be just as good as an ABEC 3. They need to be cleaned constantly to maintain their rating.
Good Luck

it's roller hockey, if he's good at playing out and has great skating skills, do not get abec-5 only abec 7 trust me. as for wheel... I have 76mm in the from 80mm in the back.. and I'm obsessed Lebeda wheels... I have tried many toerhs as I have about 4 pairs of roller hockey skates... lebeda's...they are amazing and are made really good.. if he uses his skates indoor get no harder then 78A.. if it's outdoor roller hockey then 80-82A is best. I used to sell these for a living... it's your best bet...!

Thanks all - first we tried cleaning them --- EEEEWWWW
More dog hair than I care to see again. They work better now but still having a 'sticking' problem now and then. Went into the boards hard - not quite head first, but too close for mom. 'Ice-mom' training made me leave the care to the coach, and after about 5 min. with the icepack he went back out. Whew.
Now we're trying new bearings. They play on the air hockey kind of surface at this rink, but the next place he's at is an ice rink w/ the ice melted, so it's concrete.
Just goes to show ya, it's always somethin'.
Thanks again, P/S

you are not going to notice any real difference in anything over abec 5-7 speed wise just because we pysically can not move fast enough for them to be at the optimal speed.
