Lit up!

I had my first game of the season this morning. I allowed more goals than I have ever allowed in one game in the 30 years I have been playing.

Only 4 guys for my team showed up and we played a team of kids between 15 and 17.

Final damage.... 16-3. I had 70 shots or so against. It was brutal.

The game after mine was short a goalie so I stayed and played that game as well. lost that one 7-6. I don't mind losing a close game so no big deal on that one.

Ouch.

Still, not a bad save %, given the circumstances...

16 goals on 70 shots isnt too bad...that's a lot of shots, and with a short bench, what do you expect.

personally, i feel that losing a close game makes me feel worse than losing in a blowout.

Honestly that is not your fault, I understand how you feel though. Having one line against a bench full of kids is a no win situation most of the time. Sure you let up 16 and that does suck but it does not mean you suck. Just move on from it and don't let it hinder your return.

Yeah what he said, you cant really put that kind of pressure on yourself if you dont have a team. Heck you probably your team in it for awhile, but people get tired.

When I was in Vegas, one of my teams had one line to the other team's two full lines, who were also a bunch of kids. It was close until about halfway through, when my guys got tired. Then one went down with an injury. So we're playing a man down the rest of the game, with no line changes, and these kids were celebrating like they were scoring Stanley Cup playoff goals after their 2 on 1's and 3 on 1's. Not real cool. I stood to the side of the net and let them score with like 20 seconds to go, and they cheered that too.

I didn't mind them playing full speed and scoring and such, but scoring on us wasn't exactly difficult... certainly not worthy of celebrating, anyway. I partially blame it on their girlfriends being in the stands, but still. Then they called us poor sports when we skated off w/o the handshake.

The next week, playoffs started. They got pasted like 12-4. I laughed...

I never let that stuff hinder my next game. I play every game like it was game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. Even pick up games.

did any of your players say you had a bad game? dont let it bother you, if your team aint putting pressure on you then you certainly shouldn't be. games like that just happen occasionly, the worse ones are when you know you have a chance and the puck hits and goes in, or they fluke the put in when you dont seem to have any luck, you get bad days. i had one, we were playing the best team in the league and at half time were 5-1 up, but then they just stepped up a gear and the shots were finding holes, they'd rebound in of d men, i had one a break away, the attacker deked a stopped the shot, my trailing d man slid into me an knocked the puck it, another was a hasek style save that flipped up and hit the cross bar, then down on to my head and in, we drew 5-5 in the end, the coach actually gave me greif for that, i had one lousy game in a seaso of 30 and got flamed off her, not to mention the game was at 9am and we set off at 6 to get there.

My team was very supportive. They all told me I kept the game from being 30-3. I don't really feel bad about it, it was just a shock that I could even allow that many goals. I think 10 was the most I ever allowed before that and that was only once.

And the game was at 8am not that it matters much. I got plenty of rest and had a good breakfast before the game. I was prepared. It was just a matter of us being extremely outmatched.

I'd be very suprised if that team of kids loses a single game this season. They have some serious talent.

The league I play in uses the goalies as an equalizer. The better goalies go on weaker teams and the weaker goalies go on strong teams. So the guy who runs the league kept me for his team. I guess I should be flattered.

In the game I subbed in after my game I called out that I was being screened. After the play ended the captain of the team said "with a goalie as good as you you shouldn't be worried about screens. Youll find a way to stop the puck" I thought that was funny. Like I have some kind of super powers to stop pucks I can't see? After the game he asked the league if he could keep me as his regular goalie.

So basicly I have a think skin about losing AND winning. I take all of it in stride. Unless I am in a slump and am not playing as good as I know I can. Right now I think I am playing pretty good. At least I feel good.

Come on Fish! We all have this power, don't you know? We just can't let the defensemen in on the secret.

Good to see you're rolling back from it though. These kids today are too fast for us older guys plus they usually have the advantage of being sober!

The kids on my team are usually the hungover ones, with 3 hours of sleep.

("Kids" being relative to my age, of course...)

I always lose to the teams with the crappy records and win against the best teams. It makes no sense. I approach every game the same way.
