Coaching?

i never had coaching when i stepped in net. i was just told "your a big guy...your goalie!" it was all about the school of hard knocks. well that was about 10 years ago. now just recently i was asked by a local girls tourey team (i think they are 16U) if i would coach their goalies, as the head coach doesnt know jack about goaltending. so i said yes (it will pay for my league fees). problem is, im not really sure what to do. i know some things, like drills that they can do, and cross training stuff, but i dont really know what i should do. is there an order to how i should team them. an exampe is, should i teach angle stuff first, then move to balance stuff, then go to stick position. i just dont know. i have tons of great info and insight about goaltending, just not sure about how to present it. these goalies are just like me, they were put in net, not by choice, but out of nessecity. they can barely move around the crease, can barely make saves (except the ones that hit them).
i also think the coach is expecting instant results, but i told him its a long hard process to make good goalies. i guess what im asking is this, is there an order to what i should teach them. i didnt have formal coaching, so im kinda at a loss for what i should do, any help would be appreciated. drills, tips, anything.

thanks ya'll

Start with the fundamentals. Such as stretching, basic stance, angles, positioning, movement and so on. Like any position in any sport, kids need to have the basics down first.

A few pointers-
1) don't show ANY insecurity about your qualifications to teach people to your students- or to the other coaches, for that matter. You need to have the players value your input, not say "what does he know?"
2) Go get some videos and take what you can. Copy it word for word if necessary. Just be prepared
3) Don't ask the players to do anything you can't/won't do yourself.
4) Tread lightly! These are beginners, as well as 16-year old girls. You're treading on a hormonal minefield here! One unrealistic demand, and you're in for a tough time

Start with the basics on positioning, angles and the fundamentals of the moves. Keep on repeating it to develop good habits. Stick positioning, angles, footwork, reading the angles, reading the plays.

Don't expect miracles. If these girls were forced in net, you might be dealing with some motivational issues. Be their fans as well as their coach to keep morale high- especially after that first rough game.

Good luck!

The first thing I would ask is "Who wants to play goalie?" If they're not willingly there to play the position, IMO it will be very difficult to teach someone something they don't want to know.

Before one of my games, there was a kids team practicing. Maybe 10 yr olds. The kid in net had no clue what to do. Neither did the coach. The (i'm using this term loosely) Head Coach was having everyone do breakaways on the poor kid. The guy standing next to the net was telling him to "hold your stick like this." The kid was tired, had no ambition, and was totally playing the position of goalie wrong. I thought about offering my input but I didn't want to step on the coach's toes. Which would have been easy as HE WAS WEARING SHOES NOT SKATES!!!!.
