VAgoalie, where do you play?

If you happen to play at shooters, I can meet ya up there sometime and show you my barrage pads with slide plates. They even have lots of wear so u can see where some "possible" problems arise after extended use. I live like 5 minutes away, so let me know.

Hell, you probably seen me play at shooters before if that is where you play, and didn't even notice i had slide plates

How easy is it to take the plates off for ice hockey? And how is it done?

For my pads I undo the binging holding the plates on. They are sort of stictched on I guess you could say. Just like thigh boards except bigger lol. All I have to do is unknot the one end of the string and pull it out for the plates to come off.

they will be closed very soon. So if you want one than you will need to order it now. Unlike the tux jerseys we will not be running another batch of these as we only asked Paul for permission to do one run.......

durability issues?

Hello Soulpatch. I had a question about durability. Well my concern is, has the puck every hit you square on the slide plates? In other words, do you think they would crack easily upon impact. I'm pretty sure you can buy replacements from Battram but do you think this would be an issue? Any info would help. Thanks.

Yea gotten hit in the plates before with the puck but its pretty rare. No cracking or anything. should I need new ones I can get them from battram. So far they have held up for 4 seasons with me on numerous teams and 2 tournys.

Durability is not an issue in my mind as the plates still look basically unused. I will try to take some close ups tomorrow or so so you all can see the minimal scratching I am talking about.

though I will note that I really only play on sport court these days so if you are playing outdoors on asphault or on semi smooth concrete that you could possibly have wear issues.........

For what it's worth, I had an older pair of Battrams for a few years with the slide plates and the plates were never damaged (playing on sportcourt only though). The cord used to tie them on actually wore through a few times, but the plates were still in fine shape (just dirty).

Overall I liked the plates, but they're still nothing like ice. They slide a little better than the nylon pads I'm using now (Glenn Miller Icebreakers), but not much.

Yea one spot of my cord is starting to wear through. Once that happens I am going to just use zip ties for the plates. Moogy recommended that and it sounds like a great idea.

Slide Plate Help

A few years back I had Scott build me a set of pads for roller hockey. They were his Bold model and were constructed entirely of cordura and featured the slide plates. The slide plates worked out very well. I grew out of those pads and have missed the function I had with them. I am now looking to make a set of plates for my Smith SP 2000's. Just wanted to get some advice on plate thickness and material.

I was looking at McMaster Carr's web site for materials and found several different materials and thicknesses. I have already made templates and now I just need to order materials. I was hoping that any of you that have plates that Scott has made or plates you have made yourself can you give me some advice?

Is 1/16" thick enough or should I go 1/8"?

Is ABS the way to go or a Teflon product prefered?

I know that there have been quite a few threads dedicated to this issue but I was having a hard time finding the answers to these questions. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Seth

I would highly recommend you talk to Scott. Even though you wouldnt be buying plates from him I have found that he is very helpful with these sorts or things.

Slide Plate Help update

Thanks Soulpatch, I did just that;

Scott was great to deal with as always. It felt a little strange to inquire for help about another manufacturers product but Scott didn't mind at all. He answered all my questions and took the time to explain what types of materials he uses and where to get them. He even offered to send my materials if I could not find them.

I browsed McMaster Carr's website and found what I was looking for. I have selected a Ultra Hi Molecular Weight Polyethylene Plastic 1/16" thick. I put together an order and should have all the supplies this week. I will update you all with pics when this project is finished.

Thanks,
Seth

Scott is a stand up guy. He answers every question you have even if it is to point you to another company. thats why I keep going back to him. I appreciate his honesty.

He will be getting another gear order from me in about 2 weeks for gloves and a C/A

Oh and slide plates dont hinder you too much on ice..........LOL

I just tried ice for the first time every this past weekend. It was incredible but I still kinda like roller........Better crease movement.....But ice was incredible. I must say that since trying ice the plates will not come close to mimmicing the sliding but they make it as close as possible.
