Helpful, easy skate modification

As many of you know I had been having issues with my new mission pads boot strap rubbing along the wheels no matter where i placed it with my bauer goalie skates. I have done a mod which I think will fix this. I went out to home depot with my skates and went to the plumbing isle for PVC. The 1/4" seemed too easy to put through the between the chassis and boot so I bought the 3/8". In hindsight the 1/4" might've been easier to use. The main issue i had been having is that the strap if placed where it was designed to go directly under the boot would get caught in the middle wheel of the 5 wheel setup. (Many others have experienced this and just placed the strap in the heel hole of the chassis, but that didnt work well for me) Anyways, here is what i did.

Cut a small portion of the PVC, wider then the chassis but more narrow then the boot. With the 3/8" i had to kind of spin the pvc to get it between the boot and chassis all the way across, put the skate on and it felt like a lump was in the boot so I took the PVC out and realized that it had been pressing on the boot, so i took some pliers and flattened it out somewhat, you could also use a hammer. (this is why the 1/4" might've been better to use) Move it all the way down the chassis toward the middle wheel and figure out exactly where you want it. Pull it back a little bit and place a little liquid nails under the boot on both sides. Push the PVC back into place and smear the Liquid Nails around the PVC. Allow to dry.

This creates a barricade so that the strap will no longer get caught. I have games tomorrow and sunday. 2 of which are big games so I will report on how this works when I get back. The only drawback I can see is that the toe bridge string will have to go over the PVC hump, shouldnt really effect anything though.

Hope that makes sense and helps!

insted of doing all these mods people just think about it. i had the same problem and all i did was make sure that the lace when put through the middle hole was pulled right to the very front of the opening tied tight it wonk backwords either

I am surprised you had problems running the strap through the back post on your skates.

I had this problem due to velocity style one strap under the boot. I fixed it by attaching a small piece of metal using the wheel bolt and wedging it against the cowling. worked fine for months!
