Josh, as far as schools are concerned, there is nothing over here. Mark Cavallin (a pro who plays in Germany) does a 1 day school once a year. I've been to the last three. Apart from that there's nothing else. The best hope for a quality school is an ice hockey one, hence Steve Briere's, of which I've already told you about.
Also, check the bipha website, they announced recently that they will be holding goalie clinics for beginners/intermediates. April 10th/11th.

I was looking at that Briere leaflet you gave me and it looks quite good the only problem is I haven't skated on ice for 8 years maybe? And I wasn't that good back then
I never knew that BIPHA were running goalie clinics?! Are they just like goalie schools or is there a difference?
I wish there was an ice rink that was more accessable
Cheers

My skating on ice isn't great. But the tuition on ice makes so much of a difference to your game-it teaches you to actually skate like a goalie, something that roller doesn't do at all. So many roller goalies have not been taught to skate properly, even myself, and the only way to properly do this I think is by having ice tuition, because that's how the game is meant to be played in the first place (on ice).

Im guessing the Bipha ones will be run by the GB senior goalies, most likely Nathan Gasco (head coach of norton cyclones) and Mark Law, as they have done some goalie schools in the past I think. I'm guessing they'll have some high quality shooters and just give you pointers.

I'll let my finances settle for a week or 2 then I'll try find some ice skates on ebay, if I can get some for a reasonable price then I'll sign up. It says in the leaflet that the deadline is March 21st, but limited to 30 goalies, how many went last time?
Edit:
What type of ice skates do you have, player or goalie? There are loads of player skates on ebay but I don't know if they'd be any good?
Cheers

Although I play roller nowadays, I used to place ice to a reasonably high level when I was younger and would not play in goal on ice with player skates, I can remember taking a very very bad stinger using player skates when I was 9, so I would strongly recomend getting some goalie ice skates, they can be picked up reasonably cheap off some US sites, its worth easing off the alcohol for a little while whilst at uni to pay for some.
I am probably going to invest in two pairs of the same ice skates and have one converted to roller, and play a little bit of recreational ice a little in the future. I would think you would be able to pick up a pair of goalie skates shipped from the states for roughly £115.

Being mainly a roller goalie myself I would say to stay away from the ice camps. While playing ice your movement is different than in roller. You also can not slide as much in roller which is one thing they will try to teachyou at the ice camp.
Movement is completly different between the two. I find that Roller is way more difficult than ice due to he issues with movement and the lack of sliding. The most important aspect of your roller game is to learn angles and rebound control. You can do that yourself by playing in pickups and putting yourself in different positions.
Sure a camp will aid you in positioning and glove placement but in ice there is a little more lee way than in roller and I think that it will not aid your game as much as you would expect it to.

Roller schools tend to suck, they just pick the "best" goalies to run them regardless of coaching ability.
As for ice schools i dont think they will help i play both i played international roller and i suck ass at ice its a totaly different game.

Yea I have recently switched to ice and all of my habits from roller are actually a huge plus for me. In roller you have to be square and have great rebound control as your ability to recover is greatly reduced on roller surfaces than ice.
I am now switching to ice and find it to be sooo much easier. I strongly believe that if you go to an ice camp you will be doing yourself an injustice. In ice you can "cheat" with your positioning quite a bit since you have the ability to slide and quickly recover. Should you transfer these skills to roller your game will be off.
I notice my roller game takes a bit to come back to normal after playing ice. I normally play ice on Fri nights and on Monday I have roller games. I struggle in them slightly now whereas on the ice I look like a superstar...........

There's one run by RHUK..the sites: www.rhuk.com
It's Andy Assa that teaches, he focuses WAY to much on recoverys though. I think he has you do it for like...well, all week. He's a good goalie though, and he does give you some good tips. I only went the second time to break my pads in/get some summer rink time at Bisley!
It's a good course though, but you'll learn much more by listening to the player coaches and how they're teaching the players.
My 2 cents

I agree with soulpatch
I find roller and ice totaly differnt . for example staying on the post coming out to the other side and gettin a shot from point while moving quickly across the crease and then going into a butterfly, you will slide forward a bit in ice . but.
try doing that in roller and you proberly land flat on your face.
if your wanting to do a roller school stick to roller not ice

I suppose I'll have to agree partially with my fellow english roller buddys roller and ice are two different games. But my ambition has always been to play ice so that's why I think I'm leaning towards thinking that ice tuition will be better. However, I found that after attending the school i went to in Canada last summer (which was all ice! goalies there had never even played roller before) my roller game has improved so much. There are concepts of the ice game that can be adapted to make roller a much better game though.
