i went down to the snr trials, and the kids where on before us. aroud 80 kids turned up and must of been at least 15 goalies. couldn't tell you if there were any good ones. but take the trials with a pinch of salt or just as another training. £13 quid a go by 80 people you do the maths, they already know the short list they want just a good way to make money.

Presuming you were thinking of going for the Bipha gb trials for this year. The 16s trials (your age group by looking at your D.O.B in your pfroeil) have already been, and as far as I am aware the team is picked. One player from my club is an outfield player on the team and their trials have been closed to the masses for a while now. Think the last public trial they had was back in late november/early december.
The 18s teams final trial was last sunday. So the next trials will most likely be in september for the Firs 2007 tournament teams.
They are money spinners yes, but that is driven by the fact that some times only 10 people turn up at the trial and the rink time still has to be paid for. It certainly did not subsidise the last GB trip I did which cost upwards of £1000 for 10 days.

Just adding some bits I forgot.
Bisha also has GB teams which will most likely have trials soon.
As for the standard, who usually turns up at these trials it usually is the best teams goalies who turn up as they are the ones who are well known and have top-level experience and are less likely to lose their nerve in pressure cooker situations. It is very rare to see goalies picked for national teams whos own teams are not playing in high level national tournaments regularly. The standard does very dramatically though from trial to trial, and year to year. Just go down, and trial, the coaches are usually some of the best in the business and therefore your likely to learn something about how good teams run their plays, and the shots you'll get will be of a high quality (although my most recent experience at a trial was the opposite as I had to scream 'shoot' at very nervous players to get them to even contemplate shooting!), you also get to compare yourself to the best in the country and make new friendships whcih I have through GB.

the bipha trials are a joke! if you are not best friends with the coaches or your daddy is doing the selecting then dont bother! and the rink costs them 22.50 per hour so you see how much they make out of this

Really? That's harsh if it's true. Also, BIPHA doesn't do 21's at the moment. 18's then it goes straight to seniors. Who are the senior goalies this year?

I heard Duffy still.
Yes, the Bipha trials are subjective and some players get cut who shouldn't but that always happens. I got in last year to Bipha 18s without previously knowing the coach or manager, and my dad just sits and watches me play hockey.
Moose, if your referring to the 16s, I know certain players aren't in that squad that definately should be....Andy Clark and Tom McCabe spring to mind. I trained with the Bipha Central 16s because they needed a goalie for their training and Tom McCabe was one of the best players on the pitch, yet got cut from GB for some reason. Some players who got picked I was shocked with their selection and having seen the way the americans play roller hockey they will struggle.

I find it really unfair that Duffy is BIPHA senior GB goalie when he's still only 17.
Keep players in their own friggin age groups at GB level.

I think its a case of if your old enough, your good enough, we want the best GB team out there and if he is the best then they should pick him.
Take Sidney Crosby, at 16 he was on the Canadian WJC team, he could still have been playng the 18u championships but was instead playing in the 20u one. If your good enough you should be considered. Just my personal opinion.

As said, its 20 an UNDER, not to 20 to 18 year olds..... for all that matters, a 8 year old can play in 20u.
