NXI Uncertified Cat-Eye
I need to replace my NXI Phantom cage, it's all bent up. I was considering getting a classic cat-eye, but I am getting a lot of warning from various team-mates that it's dangerious because most roller pucks are smaller.
Does anyone know the chances, or if it's possible at all, that a roller puck would go through the NXI cat-eye? I dont know much about the certified cat-eye, but it seems counterproductive - I think I'd rather have a classic grid cage then the HECC Cat-Eye.
Thanks for your openions and ideas

Awesome, what color did you get? I was going to get gold regardless of which style I get, but opinions and observations about other colors are awesome. If you can get some pics of the puck by the cage that would be sweet. I am mostly concerned with the cheek bone area, underneath the main eye holes, it seems like a puck might be able to get through that area, especially some smaller shaped roller pucks they play with at my local rink. Mostly Rocket pucks and IDS, sometimes mach 5s.

Hmmm, I thought that the diameter of the roller puck was the same as an ice puck. Regardless, I've never had an issue and I've always used a cat eye cage, from a number of different manufacturers.

I have never seen the NXi, but my Promasque cat-eye has never had any isses with a puck coming through.
When you wear a cat-eye you understand there are certain risks of sticks/pucks coming through. But they are more flukes than the rule. I have never worn anything other than a cat eye for the last 3 years and have never had a scratch from them.

One of the goalies in my league uses a pro cateye with no probs. She says she'd never switch back to the grid.
I've been using a grid for about three years and my next mask will have a pro cateye, and it'll likely be a NXI Phantom, if my opinion matters. . .

Good choice. I am 100% happy and satisfied with my phantom. I also have a review on my phantom in the review section, a quick search and youll find it.
Ok, heres the case. When the cage is ALONE and NOT on mask, the puck will go through the SIDE hole, NOT the one circled. But when the CAGE IS ON, it DOESNT fit through. Photos will show it....

I use the NXI catseye and (knock on wood) never had an issue in either roller or ice. That can happen in ice as well, I have seen it happen... you should be more concerned with a stick end getting in there...

I've had a cateye not an NXI, stock one on the Itech for most my time playing and have taken many pucks to the cage but none have gone through....although a stick blade did get through once. The chances are pretty slim to have that happen but it did. Lucky for me it only grazed the top of my eyebrow and didnt cut very deep.
So that is my only warning to you about a cateye.
