Ice guilt?
I am a very good Inline Goalie, I enjoy the game, and have made alot of friends and connections playing it. Sometimes I feel that weird type of guilt that I should have played Ice, possibly the reason is that there is no big opportunity inline professional leagues to my knowledge. I ended up playing inline because there are more oppurtunities and places to play where I live. Inline Hockey is huge on Long Island. I just feel sometimes what If I played Ice Hockey.............would I have ever made it........................Does anybody ever feel this sometimes?

I started out as an inline defenseman, switched to goalie, and made it to Jr. "A" ice in Canada. Once I got there, I hated it. In my opinion, ice is very cliquish, more serious, and honestly just not as fun. When I play inline however, there's a stronger team bond even though it's more lax. I'm glad I made the decision to come back after 9/11 and continue playing inline (as well as ice).
So do I ever wonder? Yeah, I definitely do. But because I got to a level and didn't like the experience, I can say with some certainty that even if I was good enough to make it, I don't have the motivation to play at that level. Sure, money is good, but the working out, eating right, etc just doesn't float my boat. Plus, my pocket book takes less of a hit by playing inline, haha.
But that's just my experience and opinion. Could be totally different for you.

i am also a goaltender from Long Island and i feel that same guilt when i step on the rink. If it had been introduced to me younger i would have definetly jumped on it but as it is i enjoy roller hockey as a substitute. never know its never too late to try it

It's never too late to start playing ice. Those NHL teams won't even look at you, unless you made it in college.
As for roller hockey, there's a league on the east coast and in Europe. I know the commisioner. He's a really cool guy. http://www.mlrh.com/

Well I started playing inline hockey 2 years ago, I think it was more of an accident, I was playing indoor soccer, in a small rink that they had in a recreation center, then I saw some guys skating and some noise in the area where the big rink was. I went and watched them, and ask on how to get enrolled. After that day I stoped playing indoor soccer and even outdoor soccer (consider that I'm from Mexico and I'm currently living en El Paso, TX. Which is a city that is border to Mexico, and soccer is still the most popular sport in the area) to play inline hockey.
On october of last year I started playing on net, and for some reason people liked how I played there. Some say I'm a natural, I keep saying that I'm on the range of the beginers luck, but I like to play the position, and I enjoy it a lot, unfortunately right now I'm 31 years old, so I feel like I missed a lot of years, and I also wonder, what would it be if I had started at a younger age, it does not matter if it was ice or inline, just if I have had the chance to start playing at a younger age.
But that does not matter anymore, cause now I have to enjoy what I have right now and keep improving, even when I still keep wondering about the what if...

I tried to ice skate a couple o' years ago. Spent about as much time on my back as a prostitute at a millionaire pervert's convention.

Ah the modest of the post! you may be a good inline goalie but are you the best in your area? Have you ever represented your country? Its not enough to be the best in your league to think you would have made it as a pro ice player. Iv played against the top american and canadian goalies in roller and they were amazing but none of them were under the illusions that they would have been pro ice players.

hehehe I agree with your post McTrout
At least on my part when I refer as if i had started in the sport earlier, at least by this age I will be a lot better, of course I think my chances to be an ice pro hockey player will be far from getting close specially coming from a place where Ice and inline hockey is unknown relativetly, but still, I wish I could had the chance to play the sport at a younger age .

yep I feel that a lot.
Quite frequently at the moment actually.
Almost to the point where I'm considering jacking in inline to try my hand at ice.

I try my hand at ice about once a week. Have been playing inline goal forever now, wish I had the cash back in my younger days to have been on ice. I'm 22 now, and I guess it's a bit late to do anything really competitive, although I really wish I could try. I would love to see where I stack up compared to like NCAA goalies. I'm finishing up my MBA in a year, and am going to go for an MS or MA in sports management after I graduate so I can get my doctorate. I don't know if it's worth busting my ass for a year and change improving my ice game to try and go to a DIII school and make it, even if I never see a minute of game time. I don't want to end up in the middle of nowhere if I'm not going to even make it as a practice goalie, so I dunno. Any opinions on that?
