Bearings
I searched for a thread on bearings but couldn't find one so I decided to create this- if one already exists, I apologize but here's my question:
While I understand that a lot of goalies prefer ABEC 3 and 5 bearings, is there any advantage to using speed bearings? If not, is there any disadvantage to them or is this just one of those personal preference things??

Nice - these are what I used to use when I played roller (seem quite popular in the other bearings threads)

I use Swiss bearings. The movement feels slightly smoother, but it's likely all in my head.

Have you tried the Super Swiss 6?
6 (slightly larger) bearings instead of 7 - they are supposed to be faster and stronger than a 7 bearing configuration.

Bones on-line store is your best bet.
Otherwise Nocturnal, off of South St., might order them for you. Or maybe Sub-zero - I don't know any good roller stores in the city anymore.

I use them when I skate out. They are faster, smoother, stronger, and more durable than anything else I have used, including ceramics. I have had mine for about a year, I think, and have had to clean them twice. They still roll like the day I got them. I fully recommend them to anyone that needs a new set of bearings. They are a little more expensive (about $80 for a set of 16), but are well worth it in the long run.

IW sells them, that's where I got mine. Also, they are a skateboard brand. Any type of skate shop or surf shop should sell them. RonJon does, but I don't know if there's one in your area. the Bones website also has a store locator for places that sell their products. I also recommend getting their cleaning unit and SpeedLube to maintain the bearings. Thse products just work better too.

Sweet! I'll try a skate shop near my house (G-Spot Skate and Snow) to see if they carry them.
These'll probably go in my Tours whenever I decide to pay for them I'll need 20, which sucks, but I'll figure it out.

I quick search shows that Nocturnal Skate shop and the X-games park are the only places in Philly that sell Bones bearings. You can try a zip code search to get a better idea though. Inline Warehouse sells a 20 pack of the regular, not Super 6, Bones bearings. I'm sure they are still very, very good and would do as well for you in goal as the Super 6's do for me skating out. Take a look at the Bones Site and you'll see what we're talking about with the different kinds of Bones Bearngs and their benefits.

It would help if I did my own research, eh?
Thanks for the links, PSU. I'll start looking around tonight.

That is exactly how I felt back when I played roller - I wanted it to feel more like ice, so I always went with smoother, quicker bearings.
