Do goalie skates improve your game over regular skates
I am thinking about ordering the Tour Redline 5000 goalie skates. I wanted to know if it makes a difference when playing in the net wearing goalie skates vs. regular inline Mission Rx skates?
Is it a matter of more foot protection or better slides with the cowling on the skates or easier movement since the skates don't come up as high as regular skates? Also, what hardness do I need on the wheels for a painted concrete rink?
I don't know the hardness of the Tour skates, since it isn't specified on the box or wheels.

Your going to need to adjust to the skates, but better protection and easier goalie like movements will all come.
If your looking for what hardness, the harder the better. Go with an 82 if you can find it. Look for outdoor wheels.

Goalie skates are lower to the ground and help give you a lower center of gravity. Also, most have a loger chasis compared to player skates so you can get a bit lower in your stance. The cowlings will not help you slide on concrete, but will give you added protection. So go for the goalie skates.
About the wheels, I agree with cfern harder is better.

Would you recommend buying the tour 5000's and then replacing the wheels with harder ones or is there another better goalie skate with the right wheels?

My $0.02
If you like the way the player skates ride, but dont want to fork out for new skates, you might want to look into a pair of the old Labeda Predators or SureGrip 5-wheel frames under you without the flat wheels. They're hard to find, but are really nice if youre mobile. I happen to have a decent set of ice boot/cowlings that I am looking to convert, so I'm a little biased.
I DO hear good things about the Tours though, so if youre in the market... By all means, get a pair. And as far as the durometer goes, if its a roll on floor, try not to get over 80a. Even if its concrete underneath, youre not going to chew up wheels like on a parking lot.

The code carbons come with 82a labeda patriot wheels. They're okay.
The nice thing about the tour skates is that they are preconstructed.
Also the tour skates have a higher ankle than most goalie skates, more akin to player skates.

I have a labeda frame set that I am not using if someone is interested in them......
I can get pics tonight for you guys. Also would send with the boot and 11/12 wheels.
I personally did not like the way I sat on the goalie chasis. I play in player skates and love the added mobility I have with them in terms of skating. I move a lot and the larger wheels I find help with that. Though I am HIGHLY unorthodox in my methds in that I amso have a hi lo chasis on my skates......
My next skates will probably be goal skates though as I do not like the feel of newer player skates.

I ordered the Tour 5000 Redline goalie skates yesterday for a great price - Modells.com is giving a $30 discount on orders over $150. They also had the skates on sale for $169.99. With the discount, the skates cost (not including shipping) only $139.99! Now I have extra money to buy replacement wheels of the correct hardness if the wheels the skates come with wear out too soon!
I'll write a review in a few days when I receive them...

I just bought some Bauer reactor 5000 Goalie skates off eBay. you know the ones with the black cowling. The looked amazing and felt so well constructed compared to my player skates. But the guy sold me a size 8 skate. I wear a size 10! He wears a shoe size 10 so thats what he listed them as. I was so pissed cause I was so excited to get into some goal skates. I have balance issues and I think my player skates add to it. I didn't even get a chance to try them on, my frikin foot wouldn't fit. If anyones interested I'm selling them for 80 bucks.

The skates came in but one of them was defective - the cowling came too far up and covered some of the eyelets so it was nearly impossible to thread in the laces. I had to send them back, but the company is reordering them for me and offering a 10% further discount and free shipping to compensate me for this. Has anyone ever had a problem like this before with the cowling coming up too high?

Ive just orderd a pair of redlines a few days ago. Should get them on or before xmas. Will post back here if i find anything interesting or wrong about them
They look sweet tho i chose them because they have the higher ankle support, unlike the bauers which i really didnt like, just didnt feel stable in them. But thats not really the skates fault. Still, cant wait to get em.

I received the replacement pair of redlines, but haven't gotten a chance to wear them yet since they've been playing me out for practices. They will be using me soon in the net. Will you get yours skate baked to mold them to your feet? It seems I will have to do this. By the way, the eyelets were much better in this pair, although the first set is a little challenging to thread.

Yeah i will have to take them up to the shop to get the baked. But it makes sense, much more comfy. Good that your able to lace them up at least, my plan is to just lace them onto my pads and never remove them, so i shouldnt have to do much lacing and re-lacing.

Well i got my redlines today, 2nd pair i was sent, had to retun the 1st pair because tour for some reason think that UK and US sizes are the same. Anyway ive got a pair of US11s now (uk10) and they feel pretty decent. I see what you mean about the first eyelets being difficult to lace up, just needed a firm shove through. Wont get to try em in net till january but they seem pretty good around the house

I've worn my Redlines for about two full league seasons and two tournaments (totaling about 40 games). All I've replaced have been the wheels (RR Crossbars in place of the stock Labedas they came with) and aside of a few dings on the chassis and wear on the cowling instep, they're good as new.
For the price, these skates are hard to beat- I don't think you'll be disappointed.
