Knee's Falling off Stacks = Ouch

So I've just started playing roller and I have adjusted my pads a lot to the point where they rotate really well. I wear them fairly loose starting with a semi tight boot strap, semi tight calf straps then looser as they go up.

My Elastic/Velcro Knee lock I keep really tight though so my knee doesn't fall off the stack, however; since the friction between pads/floor is pretty big if I'm down in a bfly or half pad bfly and I go to do a shuffle over, my pad will stick the the surface but my knee will go over and drop right onto the ground.

I'm going to try and get some kneepads but for I'd rather not wear them, any solutions you guys can help with?

Are you playing on sport court, wood, or smooth concrete?
No matter what surface, it sounds like you are not taking enough weight off of your lead leg. For shuffles i slightly lift my knee and push my leg over. On sport court you can eventually learn how to do about a 6" shift sliding on the cowlings of your skates. On a wood court I have to lift my knee higher and my entire lower leg except for the ankle.

Are you sure you're wearing appropriately sized pads? Mine sometimes fall off the knee stacks, but that's because I could probably use one less inch on the internals. I also wear knee guards just in case it slips off.

Yeah I'm sure. I wear 34"s with adjustable knee locks. I'm 5'11 and my knee falls right in the center of the roll. I'll try playing with the knee lock and seeing if I can adjust it to hug better, perhaps I have it too low.

And yes I was playing on smooth concrete when this happened. But I play on sportcourt too. I definitely need to work on my technique as far as blfy slide on dry floor, I havent quite mastered the whole lift leg/slide part.

If you have multiple knee stacks, try moving one down a touch. (if you get what i mean[pm me if it didn't])
I have RBK 5ks and they were slightly to big and i had the same problem, so i moved one down and that sorted the problem.
it saved me a bit of dough in the end

I had the same problem with my 4.8's. I'm the same height as you and wear 34" pads but my knee kept slipping over the knee stack. When I adjusted the knee lock higher it just slipped underneath the knee stack. I'm considering moving up to a 35 or 36" pad though.

I have knee pads now though since my knees kept getting bruised and wasn't healing as fast as they were initially . You can get some decent itech knee pads for about 30-ish I think that will do the trick.

I am 5'11, with ATK of 19 ... and I wear 35" X-Pulse. I found lately that my knee can slip off the top in them, so I will probably be getting 36 when I order my new ones

Have you tried tightening up the strap behind you knee a bit. Not a lot but enough to prevent your knee from coming completely off the stack?

I initially had the same problem with my velocity 1's (and apparently it was common with the first generation velos...based on the archive here)

I did three things.
1. As Huntster suggested, I tightened the top calf strap a bit.
2. I cover the gussets of the pads with duct tape (white to match the pads...you cannot tell at all) so the pad doesn't stick to the floor.
3. I got bigger knee blocks from PAW.

I noticed that I used to slide off also ... I fixed the problem by tightening the skate strap at the bottom (and I mean as tight as I could pull it and making a new hole) and the first two straps from the bottom upwards as tight as I could .... your leg tends to stay close to the pad and no more slipping .... I guess it really comes down to weather you are comfortable with tight straps ....
