Transition from Inline Goaltending to Ice

Greetings All BB Members,

This is my first time posting in the forum, so I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong place. I did find the thread about Ice to Inline, but not sure about the reverse.

I have been a Roller Hockey goalie on/off for the past 13 years and have been anxious to get on the ice. I played mostly on Sport Court but couldn't make the transition because I couldn't afford it. I recently started collecting equipment based on reviews from here and a few other sites. I'm a poor college kid and can't afford much, but can't resist making the transition to ice.

Please let me know if the following equipment will suffice for recreational pick-up games. Comments/criticism would be greatly appreciated.
  • Itech 935 Profile Z Helmet (it's a junior helmet but it fits)
  • Vaughn Legacy 4000 C/A
  • Mckenney 851 Pro Glove
  • Brown Elite Blocker
  • TPS 206 Pants
  • Brown Elite 32" Leg Pads
  • Bauer 3000 Supreme Skates

Also, I have viewed numerous videos of exercises and drills posted online and although a number of them are similar to roller, I know that sliding on ice is much different. On ice, I learned to stop both ways with regular hockey skates using both feet or one foot.

Any tips/recommendations would be appreciated as well.

As per the helmet, I'm sure many will suggest that you upgrade/replace it.

I don't want to give wrong information, so I'll jsut offer my personal experience.

I got the Profile 935Z JR for christmas almost a decade ago. It has since played with me up through AA and high school hockey, and now adult rec. The chin is a little short so I suggest you get a dangler or good throat protector. I also replaced the inner foam on the part just above the cage opening as it had become quite stiff over the years. As long as there is no undue wear, you may have similar success with your helmet. The fit is a bit strange, as it does in fact fit my head, and have seen ebay auctions claiming it fits senior heads as well. I wouldn't worry about it being a jr. (in this instance).

coastward_kid:

My next upgrade will be the helmet. I use it now modified with a dangler and with the chin cup moved up, so I can lift/lower it easier and not have to unsnap the helmet strap.

Spud387: thanks for the link. I should have searched roller vs. inline. I even stated "roller hockey."

Sorry for the unnecessary extra thread.
