Yeah I have to use the toe ties with my R5s. They're so light and square that they over rotate easily when I'm walking or running. I do mine a litle different though. First I lace both sides of the toe tie under the bottom two shoe laces, up, and back under those laces again. Then I tie a knot at the front laces, bring them back wrapping them around my ankles, and tying them abover my sneaker tie. I wear adidas 3/4 top Pro Model shell top sneakers so they don't bother my ankles. I find that this helps keep the pads centered and avoids over rotation. Also putting them under the front two laces helps avoid shoe wedgies.

My first game is tonight! Very excited but did not have a chance to practice before tonight's practice. The quote above is how I am going to set up my toe ties with my old new balance shoes I use to play tennis in.
I have also decided to use my size 34" Tour Bio Custom pads instead of my 36" TPS R8's for tonight.
* One problem I just saw, I don't have much of an arch on my shoes....

Just got home and had a BLAST!! These guys are crazy... NO GEAR AT ALL. Shoes, a stick, and gloves that are nowhere near being hockey gloves.
Lost 4-3 against an experienced deck team, and no one on my team has ever played prior. My gear is way too bulky for my style; i butterfly and such and play the ball a lot (I ran out and deked two guys, but the third one got me LOL). I am looking for smaller pads now. I will have photos up tomorrow. Can not wait til next week!

Important:
Stay as cool as possible. I had a game last night and the rink was a sweltering mess. I have two C/A's, one bulky one for roller and a thinner one for dek. You might want to look into something like that to stay cool.

Bought some used Shox on ebay for $30 bucks that looked close to new and they are fantastic for Ball Hawk. Play in Vapor X's and just use the boot strap and no toe tie, great rotation and just feels right with the strap at a similar tension as with my ice setup loose but not floppy.

Goalie Shoes?
Can anyone suggest a good choice in a sneaker for a ball hckey goalie? Maybe something that adds height to get the pads up off the floor a little more (like skate blades would), have an arch for the pad strap under the foot, and slide easily on floors (since no ice).

I have noticed that a lot of AND 1 shoes seem to have an arch support on the bottom. Boot strap fits perfect. I have had mine for awhile, so I am not sure what they offer now. Try looking into them if your store carries them.

school year league
i start a league during the school year of two teams with two lines each (3 players each line) and if you need players to make a team just go to your rink and ask people on your team if they want to play. its great fun, we even have goal horns and music!
