Wow impressed with all the gears you guys have going for ball hockey. Glad to see I'm not the only one out there with some ice-quality gear for ball. I agree it's all about mobility and protection in the end. A save with great gear equals a save with low-end.
Main difference I noticed is that I'm not using my 'old gear' to play ball hockey. I'm still relatively new to the position (started this time last year) and so everythign I have I got for the game, albeit I upgraded some stuff throughout the last year.
I'd like to see what other guys out there wear for ball hockey, keep posting guys!
p.s. anybody know how well jenpro moves on smooth concrete? My new pads have it I was just worried it may not work slide as well as my old 4.8's which slid pretty decently.

Safety First!
Why risk injury with shoddy childrens road warrior equipment? Just 'cause Canadian Tire sells it to your neigbours 8 year old kid is no reason to feel guilty about protecting your body and your head with decent equipment. Remember, that stuff is designed for kids, not 200 lb monsters with a 100 mph slapper! All my ball hockey equipment is "retired" ice hockey stuff:
Bauer players bucket w/cat eye cage & Cooper dangler (helmet bought new)
Bauer Supreme C/A
DR Bulletproof Catcher
DR Firewall Blocker
Old CCM pants (don't know the model, but flat fronts, so probably pretty old)
Sherwood Sherlite 2 pads (Modded with 2 extra knee stacks)
As I have progressively upgraded my ice equipment over the years, I have demoted some of it for ball hockey. Some has worked out, some has not. For example, I prefer the players bucket and cage over a combo mask as it is a bit lighter and cooler. Its all about what you feel comfortable playing in. I've used some borrowed road warrior stuff before... felt like I was playing naked!

i play inline with a puck, a mach 1, and i use ice gear. you can still feel shots sometimes, these pucks mite not be as heavy but they dont half fly, and i would say at the same level of play can go faster than an ice puck, granted there is less inertia, but you feel them lol.
i use full rbk prem 1 set, a brown c/a and a mc kenny ca. rbk shorts and a stacey mask,
if you catch a puck wrong you feel it too lol.
i use lexan than is 5mm thick in the front of my shorts and i have had that broken with a inline puck

I play ball hockey.
All my equipment is 'for the ice'
Bauer Players Helmet
Vaughn Legacy 6060 C/A
RBK 6K Blocker and Trapper
Itech X-Axis (X-Wing) Pads 30"
Nike Quest 3 players pants
I used to use the blockade stuff from Canadian Tire but a couple of slashes to the hand changed my mind on that .. I went out and bought an ice hockey trapper blocker set.
I see a mixed amount of people that wear ice hockey/ball hockey stuff .. guess it's all in the comfort thing. I cant find a goalie helmet that is comfortable so I think I will stick with the players helmet.

I believe the consensus is that Jenpro does not slide well. You may want to consider making some slide plates.

I called Scott to ask about putting slide plates on the Nexus pads. He surprisingly told me it was a no go. What makes yours inline might I ask?

I play only Ball hockey.
When I started 5 years ago all my equipment was used and Low end ice gear. As the years went by I would find great deals on higher end equipment and if your patient its worth the wait, it took a year but I bought:
Pads: 36" RBK 5 K
CA: CCM Vector
Gloves: CCM Vector 6
CCM pants
and the best deal, Itech Envy 7 mask for 125$!!!! Over doing it or not, I couldn't pass it up...
If you look deep enough people sell their stuff real cheap!

I play a high A/B level ball hockey, we have two of team Canada's players in our league as well as some 100km plus shooters so skimpy gear is not acceptable for me.
Hackva mask w dangler
Itech Prodigy Pro C/A
RBKrap SR Blocker and Trapper
Prism 9500 pants (very light but not as protective)
Itech 4.8 vamp pads (36") with sliders and modified knee stacks
Mckenney dbl cup jock
Steel toe work shoes laced into the pads
RBKrap throat guard
Two years ago I took a slapper to the upper bicep when I was in the middle of a pile up in my crease and I lost the use of my arm for a good 10 minutes and had a serious contusion for months after. The ball can be as dangerous as a puck, macho is stupid, protection is smart. Even though most of my stuff is low end ice it works well for ball and is very light and mobile.

Can anybody answer this for me...? I have a game this Thursday and wondering if I shouldn't bother using the 580s. I've never had a problem sliding before on my 4.8's but that was nylon I think.

You won't slide as well if your old pads were nylon. I guess it depends on how important the game is and how much you rely on sliding.
You can get some velcro with an adhesive on one side and attach it to your pad gussets and knee wings, and you will slide well. Either the soft of the catchy side works. Most seem to think the catchy side is better, but stuff will stick to your pads.
I"ve used the soft side and it worked well on hardwood.
Edited to add, velcro works the opposite on ice, and grips, so if the pad are doing double duty, I would not use the velcro.
I currently use duct tape on the giussets and it works on both ice and hardwood. I"m certain it would also work on concrete. The issue for you then is are you ok with putting something like duct tape or adheisive velcro on your new pads?
If you are not carefull it is possible it could damage the pads when removing it.
Search around there are some threads on it. For me removing duct tape is only a problem where there is wear on the jenpro. On new pads I don't think it would be a problem, but know there is the possibility of damage.
I plan on getting my velo gussets recovered in cordura in the offseason by Sara at paw.

Strange. I asked scott to make mine completely from cordura which slides better. And I asked for slide plates, (though I wouldn't bother next time). Don't know why he said no. Maybe you have some other mods going on.

Anyone know if I can get cordura put on my 580's at Toronto Hockey Repair? I'm looking for a place that can do it locally (in Toronto area) but not sure where to start. Also if someone has an idea of costs that'd be great.
edit: I messaged the guy from Goalie Heaven on the board but if someone else has another place in Toronto that can do it, it'd help a lot. Thanks
