Roller Hockey Pants
Hi I am an ice hockey goalie but I play forward in roller hockey. I was just wondering if any of you know how much those roller hockey pants, that look like regular pants, go for? I have player ice hockey pants, but those look to be a lot easier to move around in!

Drewser,
You can find them at ANY hockey supply place - they often start around $29 and can go up to $100. I'd recommend wearing a protective girdle underneath them for protection, as the pants are not padded.
I hope this helps.
As a newbie (who has been careful to avoid being flamed), I suggest you try not to post questions like these that can be easily answered by visiting any pro shop or hockey supply store or website... Look for the answers before posting If it's something difficult, or that you can't find, do a search on the BB. If you still get nothing, these guys are a tremendous help... but do a little leg-work yourself! Good luck.

When I skate out in roller, I wear my Ice hockey pants (CCM Supra ) , not my goalie pants, and then I don't wear socks, but rather, I leave my chin guards exposed ( they slide on the floor better.)
Although the Roller pants look pretty cool, they are not very practical.......unless you never fall down! It seems that they always have melt holes in them from sliding on the surface.
Plus wearing ice pants give it a little bit of the"Old School" look!

Yea I have used regular Ice Hockey pants for roller hockey for 5 years now, but I wore jogging pants last night in a scrimmage, and I felt that it was a lot easier to play without the regular pants, so I thought these Mission pants would be a good idea for me!

Drewser,
Just remember, they're not padded. If you want any hip or thigh protection, you'll need to pick up a protective girdle for underneath. Personally, I wear $5 sweatpants under my 'old school' hockey pants and over my shin guards. They get the job done, and I don't see any reason to spend $30+ on pants that'll just get ripped up anyway...

Mission along with a host of other companies make roller pants. As it has been said there is little or no padding in the roller versions so a girdle is needed unless you want to live dangerously. Personally I use pants built by Block Alternative (a local company for me). The wear on them has been excellent and just now are they wearing to the point that I will think about replacing them and they are 3 years old, give or take a couple of months.

One of the guys on my team cut out the shins of his inline pants (the area that gets the worst amount of wearing) and replaced that area with denim from an old pair of jeans. Says it keeps them from wearing out as fast. I dunno if it works or not but I thought I'd pass along the idea.

Roller hockey pants are great for 2 reasons:
1) They last much longer than hockey socks -- hockey socks don't fare so well off the ice. Pants should last at least 1-2 seasons, depending on how often you fall.
2) Their cut -- they fit loosely, allowing freedom of movement, and usually they are vented allowing you to stay a little bit cooler. Traditional hockey pants/socks are usually warmer than a roller hockey pant/girdle combo (unless you're wearing shin guards with no coverings, which isn't allowed in most leagues).
By the way, I just picked up a new pair of Mission Matrix pants for $30 from HockeyGiant.

Not wearing roller pants here where I play is unheard of. My high school team gets free mission pants, and my tournament team gets free nike pants. Pants are in high abundance here, and every player i know has about 3-4 pairs just balled up in the bottom of their bag. Playing roller and not having pants sounds unbelievble to me. But anyhow, i say buy some pants for roller.

What really cracks me up is that a couple of guys that play on both my roller and my ice team wear their roller pants to play ice! I think it actually looks pretty cool.
Both of these guys are good players, so when they first started playing on my ice team, some of the players on other teams would kind of snicker at them thinking" a couple of roller loosers"......then they'd get smoked by the "loosers" ......Pricless!
I still prefer open chinpads for roller, you never have to replace socks or pants.
