I've been checking in on the BB daily, but haven't had much to say that hasn't already been said by others. Just thought I'd post to let everyone know that I'm still alive and playing hockey, and haven't been sent off by Uncle Sam to shoot any Taliban/Al Queda (yet).
Here's what's been going on with me and Marine Hockey:
Upcoming-
We are putting together the 2nd Annual All-Military Inline hockey tournament. It is going to be May 25th at the Sportsplex in Poway, CA (north of San Diego). Right now we only have 5 USMC teams registered, but the event is open to any military teams. If there are any USAF, USA, USN, or USCG teams out there, let me know or visit my website and get the flyer from the "handouts" section (website info is below). The deadline for registration was 26 April, but exceptions will be made because we've had a hard time getting the word out. I highly recommend everyone else that can to come see the tournament-even with just the 5 Marine teams there, I promise you it will be highly competitive and fun to watch.
Recent Events-
29 Palms recently played in Las Vegas, but things did not go very well for us. We lost half our roster to deployment on the Thursday before the tournament and had to play with 5 skaters and myself. We did the best that we could, but even in the bronze division (we usually play silver or occasionally gold) we just got wore down. 3 of the 5 skaters did not have their usual linemates either. I didn't exactly play my best either, don't know why, but we all have bad games I guess. I am getting ready for the military tournament, though. We were runner-up last year, losing the championship game in OT. The rest of the team is motivated by last year's result as well.
Whats going on w/MarineGoalie-
I've put up my own website on eteamz, it is
www.eteamz.com/sites/JasonCortright. Please check it out, and don't forget to sign the guestbook. My mask was repainted by Rob Schlitter (he did the Gun Doctor's mask) and there are photos of it on the website under the news section. I also have a bio up under "handouts" on the website (the All-Military Tourney flyer is also there). I've played goal all of my life, but especially have played allot during my 9.5 years in the USMC and my wife has kept track of all of my games, stats, etc. and put together a bio, along with a scouting report from my coach. She did an outstanding job on it and keeps it up to date. The photos in the bio are almost a year old, except one, but my wife is developing new ones to put on the bio.
Well, that's about it for now. Gotta go to practice...
