Goal Skates
I'm looking for a new pair of goal skates (roller). I've used Bauer 1000 in the past and liked them except that the toes pinched alot in the sides and both tounges split shortly after purchase (poor job on sewing I guess). I currently use the QuickChange goal skates but I've never been happy with the hi-lo concept of a goal skate. I'd like to try the Bauer 5000 but I can't find them anywhere.
What goal skates does everyone else use and what's the upside/downside of each?

You'll be hard pressed to find a set of decent roller goalie skates. Personally I use a CCM boot and cowling from one of their ice skates (with the blade cut off) mated to a SureGrip H405 5 wheel chassis using RedStar Guardian wheels.
There are a couple of other companies that are supposed to be working on new goalie specific chassis but to date nothing has made it to production.

I'm currently using Bauer 5000s after upgrading from the 1000s, and couldn't be happier. The construction on the boot is much better (same as the ice skate), and the wheel/chassis combination is a lot more durable and suited to the position.
Now if only I could find more people making 47mm wheels so that I can actually replace all 10 of these suckers when they wear down!

GoalieRick,
I am currently using a CCM pump tackwith a bauer player Tuk chasis with agressive Hyper midget wheels size is 50 mm with a 89a hardness.
Avatar,
You may want to look into aggressive wheels I know they come that small, but I don't know what hardness you want, that may be the problem. Personally I've been using the same wheels for over 6 years and all I have done is change bearings when I changed skates. I don't rotate them or have any wear. I have a question for you, what did you do with the 1000's that you were using?

avatarkava, the pro shop at my inline rink has a friggin' HUGE box of the 47mm wheels. Must have been over 100 in that box minimum. I ususally don't share this info with just anybody I like to keep them all to myself. I don't know if he'll ship them out mail-order though. If he doesn't have them in stock (which I doubt) he can order them.

I got a pair of Bauer 5000s and love the dearly.
No major problems with them (stitching, etc.) and they are very comfortable and stable.

Hey Av,
Remember that rink in Rahway I met you at? I was in there last week and they had 10 of those 47mm wheels you were looking for. Drop me a line if you need an assist.
PS - the rink's website is www.thecentercircle.com

I too have been looking at the Bauer 5000 line. Let me know if you get them. I am tempted myself.

A word of caution on the 755's, they have a plastic chassis.

GOOD NEWS
Goalie Rick,
What did you do with the chasis from your previos Bauer 1000's. If you still have them the only way to guarantee getting them mounted to 5000's is to buy ice skates, chop the blade and have a chasis remounted on to the boot. That is what I did to a pair of CCM pump Tack's goalie skates. If you have any exttra chasis floating around email me. The goalie chasis can not be found at the moment. At the moment the roller version of the 5000 is discontinued according to Bauer. I even called them and aked if they would just sell the chasis by it self. Their responce was to buy the 1000 and take the chasis off it. (the 1000 boot does not come in a wide enough width for my Fred Flinstone feet.)
BTW how many wheel did your 1000's have 4 or 5.
If you just want another pair of 1000's try here and look under skates then inline.

Just called my local pro shop. According to my contact he called Bauer and they are thinking about rereleasing the chasis by itself to be mounted on to skates. The date is still tenative but he was told possibly around October.

KZooKeeper: If you're offering the 1000's at 1/2 the price you paid for them, I'll take them. I'm not sure what boot I'll mount that chassis on but I'll figure it out.
