a lot of SA

If I'm averaging about 35 - 40 shots or more a game and giving up 8 - 9 goals is that my fault or defenses' fault?

First rule of being a goalie: never blame your defense. No matter how many shots you are facing, you have the responsibility to stop as many as you can. Talk to them if you want, but make a commitment to get better. 35-40 shots is a lot, but if you really are giving up 8-9 goals a game, your game is the one that needs work. Start giving up four or five goals a game, and then talk to them about tightening up.

When I played rollerhockey I use to get 45 to 60 shots a game. I would also give up about 7 or 8 goals, but it also depended on what team we were facing. The league that I had played in had teams that were extremely miss matched. For the two years I played one team only lost 1 game the hole year and the next another team didnt even lose a game. There were also teams that never even won a game. When we did play a team that we were evenly matched with I would still get around 45 shots but I would only let in about 3 or 4 goals. So it also depeneds on what the skill level of the other team is compared yours. Also what typ of goals are you letting in?

Also depends upon the quality of the shots. There are some teams that fire at will from anywhere and there are some teams that simply work and work and only take excellent scoring chances.

You can have a game in which you face 40 shots, give up 3 goals and have not played all that well. And you can have a game where you face 20, give up 8 and pretty much have had no chance on any of the goals.

There is no blanket answer to your question...

goaliepowa,

I agree with loudog to a degree on this. Don't call your D out on this. It will only divide the team if they feel the opposite of you. If you have the opportuinty have an OBJECTIVE person watch a game or two. If they feel as you do and it looks to be defensive breakdown causing you high GAA. At that time I would and have give constructive critisism to the worst offenders.

EG. One team I played for one of the D thought he was helping me by standing next to a screen and smacking at the forwards stick. All this did was give me a double wide screen to look around. I askled him to either get in front of the guy and not allow a pass to get to the screen or get behind him and move him but don't stand side by side and smack at his stick. He does this now.

You can blame some goals on the D, but you should never address it publicly.

Definately defense !!!!!
Just kidding.
I think both .
The worst thing to do as a goalie is to blaim someone else for letting in a goal !!!!!
I learned that through the years and I am still young (only 16) !!!!!

Well i get around 40 - 70 shots a game but over here its a proven fact we have sh1t defence. But alot of it was my fauly when i was not very experianced i was letting in about 10 goals a game but then when i played more season's i only let in between 0-5 goals a game so im doing better.
