Wood floors and leather pads
Anyone know how I can make myself not STICK to frickin' wood floors??? I played pickup tonight on a wood floor and I absolutely couldn't slide. It actually helped a couple times cuz I stopped dead in my tracks and it happened to be wear the puck was going. At any rate, I don't like it!

Badge was the floor coated with anything? Our team practices on a wood floor and I have no problems sliding, but it is a gym floor that is laminated. You might want to look into those nylon covers for your pads when playing on that surface to help you slide. Oh and by the way I ordered my pads last night did that floor take a tool on them or did they hold out well?

How do you keep your skates from also sliding like they're one ice, aussie?

I have heard of using talcum powder before but, I have black pads so it would probably make them look bad. I guess that the powder would wear off and once it hit the sweat in the crease it would make a mess. How did your pads hold up? I also spoke to Scott about making a pair of pad covers but I havent got a reply yet.

The pads held up fine, daemyn. They got a lot of dust stuck on 'em, but I scrubbed it out. It scared me a bit cuz it looked like the pads had crapped out, but a wet towel and 10 seconds and my pads were back to new. Talcum powder would also make my black pads look like crap (it's all about image!), and I also sweat more than the average person. I think Scott's on a vacation or at least taking a break, but lemme know what he says about the nylon covers, swickj.

He said that it can be done but he normally does not do it. He also said that all pads are made differently. I sent him another e-mail stating that I can send them to him but I'll just have to see what he says. I will keep you updated.

I reiterate:
With all this powder all over the place, wouldn't your skates also slide around like they were wet?

Yes, powder tends to make the floor harder to stand on...

Does the powder absorb water and turn into sticky stuff making your pads and the floor a mess?

Ok well with the powder i also got black pads but i don't really care if they get a lil white on em i just rub it off when i air them out,Also with the wheels yes it does give u a lil bit more slide but it doesn't make em go all sticky and stuff. And it doesn't wear off at all for me i just put it on and rub it in a bit and it's fine but i guess american and canadien floors are different from our Aussie floors ahh well i tried to help. )

Hey Aussie, could you give me the instructions for putting it on the pads including where to put it, what to rub it in with, and how to clean it off.

Ok swickj well all u do is get the bottle and squeeze a bit all over ya pads and then just use ur hand and rub it in and all over ya pads.If ya wanna clean it off get a damp cloth ( not dripping ) and just wipe it off if it looks like it's gonna get all yuck then just use a clean dry cloth or anything u can find.Good luck with it

If I remember correctly someone told me to use a scotchguard spray?? be sure to get a second opinion before you do it...

I used tent spray (I think it is the same stuff) and it absorbs into the pad. I don't think it will help you slide much although it did make the leather a little bit more slippery. The main reason to use Scotchguard is to waterproof your pads for ice hockey.
