Blades can still rust with those if they are wet, or still really cold when you put them on (they might be dry when you put them away, but if the metal is still cold moisture will form as they warm up).

Are you storing them in a moist environment? Liiiiike a bag?

Best thing to do is leave the guards on for as little time as possible, and either hang them or store them upside down in your bedroom (or similar closet). Odds are they won't get wet if they are someplace inside your house (other than a bathroom, obviously). You can put the guards on (assuming they are dry) once the metal is completely dry and has had time to warm.

Yeah I store my skates in my room, because they are very important to me. I'm, wondering if I could still use them with the hollow rusted? I tried to get them sharpened today, but the guy wasn't there.

Was just thinking that... daveb hasn't posted since I left hockey 6 years ago, hahaha.

In any case, am I the only one that wipes down the skate blades with WD40? That's what the chemical was originally developed for...

I get a few dots of rust in the hollow of my Bauers, but never on the sides of the blade, and then when I skate it polishes the rust off in a few minutes, so I know the rust isn't going very deep, so I just don't worry about it.

That's what mine often look like, and I've never had a problem with it. I have a pretty good skate sharpener too, who does a quick check of my skates everytime to make sure they're in good shape and stuff, and he's never mentioned anything about it.
