993 Chest
Well partly because of this review and the response I picked up a DS 993 chest and arm a few months ago.
My New ******* 993 CA
While everything that was said is very true I was never truly comfortable with it. I felt it was too bulky for me. It did remind me of my old Heaton Helite III that I loved back so many years ago, but not close enough. The old Helite looked something similar to this
I had four issues-
- I felt the elbow floaters were too big at 7 inches
- The belly padding could be an inch longer
- The shoulder caps were too large and got in my way
- Jury is still out on the heart guard
I first cut the shoulder cap down and used some left over nylon to cover the cut
you have a better view of the work here
I then took apart the elbow block and trimmed the foam down to 6 inches and also shrunk the padding on the inside and outside of the respective arms. This will fit a right handed goalies movements better
After finishing the arms and taking a break I added a small pad to the belly. Thanks Stryker for the extra padding! I also cut out the extra chest padding. If I like the chest pad better with it I can always sew it back on.
Here is the Chest pad all together
And unfortunately a fuzzy picture with a jersey on

I guess this is the right topic, kind of. Has anyone used a Skate Mate? How well do these work?

just did a mod on my C/A
i have an Epic 8800 medium and have been getting shots inbetween pieces of foam/plastic on the front of the elbow floater
so i found an old jock of mine that i cut up for spare pieces of foam and plastic so i just shaped out a rectangle of med density foam about 6"by 3" and placed it inbetween the floater and the arm and sewed it in with dental floss (very strong)

-old thigh boards
-long tube sock (black is what I used)
-2 (2 also needed in precaution) shoe laces
-screw driver (to poke holes don't use knife, you'll see screw driver is easier)
okey steps:
1. cut open the thigh boards remove padding foam, cut in three even pieces (per thigh board...6 total pieces)
2. stack the three pieces and stuff them in tube sock and tie off end
3. poke 6 holes thru the sock and layered padding
4. poke 6 holes thru side of pants
5. run shoe laces thru holes of sock/padding and lace them to the pants..... tie them on tight...(one lace each)
6. just as precaution: I then took another lace to run ove the top of the padding use as webbing to make sure to stayed no matter what (2 more laces needed... 1 per side)
then put pant shells back on pants... look sleek .....and do help
photos to come of finished product..got idea from GREAT SAVES - Hockey equipment repair, Goalie Equipment Repair,Skate Guards, Hockey Equipment, baseball equipment repair,Baseball Equipment, lacrosse equipment repair

Chin cup Mod
After hating the chin cup for quite a while, I decided to do somthing about it. After a couple of searches, I had decided to cover the chin cup with a wrist band. I tried this, and it was better, athouh not great.
Just as I was ready to quit, I saw my spare sweatbands lying around and thought 'what the heck'
I took the chin cup out, wrist band and all, and left the velcroey straps on the mask. I then took the velcroey side of the sweat band, stuck it on the strap, and after a little ajusting, had the ultimate chin cup. It absorbes sweat, is soft, and large!

I've stopped wearing gear altogether; it's the ultimate mod.
Real men have bruises ( along with some broken bones, lacerations, frostbite, missing teeth and lots of scars ).

Like this?
I know that there are chin cup covers sold now for this application. Maybe a better fit? More importantly, a Nike logo in the right place problalby. And the colors!
Just going with a sweat band seems like it's not enough... imo.

Word.
I'd be even cooler if I had more than 13 chest hairs. They don't help.

While in the football helmet acessories page, I saw these chin cups:
They're $2.99. Looks like they could just replace the foam cup?
