Bauer 7000 Skate Problem.
Hello everyone, recently I have had a problem with my current 7000 skate. I used to use 3000's, but eventually they became too soft, too fast as well, and I opted for the 7000's. I felt a little pinch on my right heel of the skate, no big deal, i thought I just had to break it in. Oncece i got into hokcey camp however, with 5 hours of ice, for 5 days, and the same thing but instrcuting for the next week, my let heel and right heel just got wrecked and i was forced to wear moleskin and all these things to protect it. But the worst problem out of all of this was (im assuming) a bruise on my left insided ankle, and that just kills my feet when I move around the crease. After that, I took a long break off my skates before my conditioning camp, and eveything healed, re moulded my skates. And now after 2 ice sessions, my ankle hurts again,a nd my heels hurt too. what do I do, I only have a week till tryouts. Should I look at the 3000's, maybe another brand, or just take pain killers and pad the crap out of my feet? tahnk you for your help!

I had something like that years ago in bauers. 3000's though when I was at a goalie camp, my ankles would hurt like hell and my hells would be quite badly blistered, and the skates were well broken in. Can't remember what I did as we're talking like 10 years ago, but could be a number of things, I do remember that my ankles were quite weak at one point which caused pain. Could be to do with moisture in the skate if you're wearing them for a long period, or them being too lose or large causing rubbing and movement in the boot. If you were in them for 5 hours a day there's a good chance the heel was from friction, I always used to wear 2 pairs of socks to adjust for that in some skates. Having said that, I've worn the same bauer 5000 boot for about 5 years now and only get any sort of rubbing when the boot works lose if im on the ice for a long time and gets damp inside. The ankle could simply be a slight weakness in it which may go with time or excising it to strengthen it. Doubt thats any help.....

I have the same problem with my Bauer 3000's. Heel pinch in the right skate. It has actually caused a "Bauer Bump" to form on my heel. I asked my doctor about it, she said it's actually a calcium deposit the body has made to try and protect the tendon...and it's not going to go away. Apparently it's pretty common amongst athletes, especially hockey players. Her words not mine.
It seems the reason for the pinch is the heel cup bauer uses in their skates. The curvature is a little too aggresive at the top so it actually cuts into your heel. I tried deforming mine back using a ball pein hammer but to no avail. It just wouldn't bend. So I have a mole skin patch over that area in my right skate. It still hurts occasionally if I'm playing a tournament or any other time there isn't much recovery time between games, but it's the only temporary solution that seems to work.
All of which is why I'll be getting over my "elf-toe-itis" (fear of elf toe) and switching to Grafs this season....

I had a problem like that in 3000s about 15 years ago. My heels were KILLING me after long sessions. I ended up putting in heel pads and noticed an immediate difference. I am currently in 7000s that I have worn 10 times. Not every session, but maybe 5-6, I am getting a pain on the front inside part of my left ankle. I am working on a lacing setup to see if that affects it. Otherwise they are the most comfortable skates on my foot they I have worn.

Is this what you guys are talking about? If so, I came across a great little invention to protect it. It's kinda like a sock (with the toes cut off) and an achilles heel gel pad on the heel. www.silipos.com

Sorry for the big pic, it's my first time hosting.

Thats called a heal spurr, and its common to hockey players, and not exclusive to Bauer skates, as I've seen guys with all types of skates get these, including my roomate in college who wore Grafs, and developed significant heal spurrs.

I have had that thing with my heel my whole life i didn't relise it wasn't normal until my girlfriend pointed it out to me, another thing with the whole ankle issue. You need to find the right sock , like for me I need to wear a thinker sock, with the uderarmor sock i get this too, also make sure your sock has no winkles in it because if you do up your skates too tight the pressure will create a bruise due to the winkle in the sock.

Two things I thought of today when I was looking at my skates:
1. I have superfeet insoles in my skates. When I took them off, and put on the skate, i didnt get the pinching on the heel anymore. As well, wouldnt nylons work well to reduce friction as well?

Ya I've seen many guys with this. You don't have to but you could get surgery and cut it off or just get custom skates but that's a very expensive option or just find a way to compensate like dacozta said with the socks.

ya-Heel "spur". it is a build up of calcium, not sure why it happens, but the good news is that can easily be removed through surgery, I on the other hand, have a spur on BOTH of my feet, but not on the back of the heel, but UNDER both heels! Inoperable the doctors told me, i now have to suffer with them my whole life. Atleast i get a constant flow of pain meds.
