Just got off the phone with Pete Smith about my pads. They were estimated to be done tomorrow but he said they were a few days behind so early next week. Just a friendly update for those of you waiting.

So as I am reading some of these posts I realize that Smith pads don't have any vertical breaks in them. How flexible are the pads and what would each model compare to in terms of flexiness. So far I have gathered that the 4000 is stiffer than the 2000. Interested more so in 2000.

Forgot to mention that the Smiths have a non-sliding toe bridge, I thought he might have thrown a sliding one on just to take the picture. It turns out that he made it look like the sliding toe for marketing purposes. I can now say I have a Lundqvist mod on my Smiths.

You can ask Pete to make the pads more flexible.

flexibility

He claims that all of the pads are the same flexibility. Also you can order them more flexible. Some people keep them stiff I have squashed mine to get more S curve on them. I would say they are just about right in flexibility you can work them as you need them.

Also I believe all of his pads have the sliding toe brigde. Atleast all that he sells now come standard.

Right, the sliding is standard and I asked specifically for a non sliding toe bridge, he made up this one so it is adjustable but it won't slide. I like to have them loose at the toe not just for rotation, but also so the slack let's the boot pull away from my skate, so I artifically add some width to the butterfly.

May I ask how he changed it from sliding to adjustable?

I put in my order a month or so ago and this sounds like something I'd like...

Honestly I don't know, I just asked for a standard toe bridge and he said he made one to look like a sliding, it looks like there are two pieces of leather, one side with the sliding slot, the other with individual holes punched in it.

Cool.

If you take pics when they arrive would it be possible to shoot a picture of the underside of the toe bridge? Would be greatly appreciated

Thumbs up What a great surprise for me today!

A great surprise for me today, my new Smith 1000's are in and look amazing! First thing I noticed was how ridiculously light they were. I would venture a guess to say they feel like 4.5 lbs, my 32" Bionics have to be at least 6 lbs. The 11" width and the nylon straps helped alot . Pete's stuff really is top notch, not a stitch is out of place, and they've definately got that Smith clean cut look to them. Of course a spare parts bag was included, just in case. Also I'm really happy I've finally got a good tall thigh rise on my pads, I will have no excuses for the five hole anymore.

Here is the custom toe bridge, designed to look like a sliding but is actually fixed and adjustable. The thick plastic piece has no slot but rather spaced out holes to allow for a standard or offset option, right now I have them slightly offset.
