Pete emailed me and confirmed it is 25.00 to add the adjustable Thigh... and after seeing the picture from the site

It looks like you can completely hide them if you dont like them ....

The other thing this would allow one to do is buy pads a little shorter.. then extend them as needed ..... rather then having to get the pads as big as you think you could handle

When I went in April I believe that he did have a pair in the store that you could try. Pete is a great guy and I am sure he could help you with anything that he could. A few years ago I was in desperate need of a new set of pads. He was so great that he sold me his own personal set of SP 3000s. Anything that you need Pete can do.

I would suggest emailing Pete and asking him, I have head of people taking tours of his shop so I would assume this is possible, but who knows with the demand he has for his product currently :-)

I have found Pete to be extreemly helpful and willing to listen to my questions as I ask them OVER and OVER again

Hi Jim, the size is 36+2, which is also the reason I didn't go for the adjustable thigh rise. I know I wanted at least a +2, and anything else would take me over the 38" limit.

I'm really happy with how these turned out. My goal was, after some use, to have a pad whose face had absolutely nothing on it but puckmarks

Heck, I was almost ready to get on the ice when I went to visit him. I was unsure about 36" since I had never had a pad that size. He let me try on his since they were a 36, but to make sure I wasn't leaving any variables out, I had on his skates and pants (over my jeans) too. I didn't worry about the c/a or jock though.

I tried on his gloves too, although he apologized for them being a little damp from pick up the night before. I didn't care as I was just happy to be there. He even took the time to show me and my son his shop, a set that was in progress, his orginal 5000 set that had the adj. thigh rise, and several of the TT returns. To top it off, I left with a Smith ballcap.

For anyone with questions, call Pete. I never left a message when I called cause he picked up every time. Plus, I already have my pads so delay him all you want.

Glad to hear everyone is enjoying their Smiths. I have nothing real important to say or anything other than just yesterday desided (and due to this bb I might add) that I was going to go with a full set of Smith 5000's. I had been considering it last year but money fell short and I, as bad as this is, forgot about his gear and was going to go with a bigger company that will remain nameless. But while reading the official thread for that company, some one mentioned Smiths and a bell went off in my head.
You all seem so pleased with your's, so I can only take that as a good sign.

Cheers,

A Big Thanks to Pete

My SC1000 comes back tomorrow from Pete's shop with a newly "pro" padded palm to protect against the recent stingers I was feeling.

I am quite excited to be reunited with my glove!

Pete offered to rework the glove without hesitation.
He truly stands by his product.

I was silly to rant here on the BB prior to contacting Pete.
He read my rants and e-mailed me ASAP with his offer to modify my glove for me. I felt badly that Pete read such rants.
Honestly, I can't speak highly enough of the customer service that Pete extends to his customers.

I have a smith catcher as well.. SC1000 also purchased about a 1 yr ago.
how long ago did you purchase yours and at what level are you playing to be
getting stingers? I play at the senior level with some good shooters and only
have a few (maybe 3) stingers in an entire year.. not enought to even consider modifying the glove..

Please let me know how the extra palm works out.. you may sacrifice the ablity to close it easily..

mine is top left white/blue

Good! It's a much better alternative than RBKs.

Hey Jim,

My SC1000 has been used regularly since November.
I do skate against some decent shooters. I play senior level hockey...ranging in ability levels. I'm not really sure why or how the glove thinned out where it did, but I'm certain that the stingers were from the same guys I've been skating with all year.

Anyhow, the glove arrived here right before my game today. Pete did an amazing job padding the glove so that the closure was not altered too much. When at home, I do notice the thicker palm/break but while I was on the ice the extra weight and padding did not bother me at all. On ice, opening and closing the glove was excellent. I can close the glove fully without any extra effort.

I am more than happy with the work that he performed this week. One of the suspect shooters shot glove high today and in catching the puck, I did not feel a thing. That's how this glove felt from November up until recently....impenetrable.

An interesting side note....the extra padding takes up some space in the catching surface, thus, opening the T-trap ever so slightly, making the glove's netting better for snagging pucks.

A+ for the Smith glove
A++ for the Smith glove's creator
