Hey all,
Placed an order with Pete today for a set of 5000's. Pretty excited. I dont really do mods or ask for anything different, so they will be coming in as normal. I think the wait time I was given 5-6 weeks, or 6-7, I forget already. Its great how you can just talk with the person actually making the pad, good experience.

Does anyone have pics of Smith pads with all white nylon in the leg channel/back of the pad area? I'm curious about exactly how dirty looking it gets over time.

Just received my first set of Smiths (5000s off ebay). I took off the thigh boards and reattached the top strap. Is this strap meant to be used only if thigh boards are attached?
I cannot believe how light these pads are! Huge weight reduction from my 12" RBK PS1s...or at least they feel a lot lighter.

As far as the strap at the top, I think it's just an alternate way to do them if you like the more "traditional" setup as opposed to the "butterfly" strapping. The butterfly strapping angles down and attaches below your knee, while that upper strap is for the old school goalies who like to have the strap above the knee. (at least I think that's what the explanation is...)

So far I like the top strap attached...my butterfly is semi-narrow so the top strap brings the thigh rises in and closes the 5-hole.
BTW: Of course, now I'm looking for a used set of Smith 5000 gloves also....anyone seen any for sale? I saw the red catch glove in the classified section, but I'm not sure how red gloves would look with my white pads with blue graphics.

I was thinking of getting some SP 5000's and was wondering how much the pad shrinks when the boot breaks in on a regular flex boot. Thanks.

It depends on how you wear your pads and if you flex it.
If you are buying custom as opposed to used then tell Pete you want it stiff here and there.
That's what a custom pad is.

Hey guys I have a question. Do u think Pete could built for me a 1000 pads nhl spec with the 5000 leg channel and the iceberg or something similar to the new price graphic? Im using the UL5 and I just love the look of it! My biggest problem is I have a 34+2 and I would need a 35 + 2 but Mark cannot do it until jan 09. I also hate the fact that the back of the pads is all white which wil get dirty pretty fast! so As I odered my gloves a while ago Pete told me he would built the pads at the same time than my gloves. That is very interesting! So either I go for a 36+2 UL5 (I tried a V3 36+1 and my knee was almost in the center of the cradle) and I live with the fact that the back of the pads will be dirty in a couple of weeks. Or I order the 1000s with the mods I need!
what should I do!!!??

You really don't know what your talking about.
Both the 1000 and 5000 have the same leg channel.
The only difference is the 1000 have shredded foam in the side gussets as opposed to a full sheet of foam. One is stuffed (1000)forming a leg channel and the other is completely flat(5000).
Why don't you call him and ask?

The desing of the 5000 leg channel has been changed. Here's a picture.

The second calf riser is removable and of course the knee stacks are too. Everything else is sewn on. I removed some straps and the thighboards.

So the calf raises are now all separate?
