Action shots
Love the 2000 graphic on the 5000 pads... I got a ton of action shots from the summer Hockey Jamboree I played in, so figured I'd share some!
These are my SP2000's-still loving them after almost 1 year with them now.
Thanks Pete!

In retrospect, one modification that I should have requested for my Smiths is to have stiffer foams in the knee block. I guess it's an easy thing to fix yourself though, as you just open the block up and put in whatever foams you want.
I noticed that as I'm a big guy (no, not fat), that the knee lifts give in a lot when i go down, so they don't give you as much "lift". Previously I've had much stiffer ones and they still haven't felt uncomfortable.

White, black, purple and the gold on the outer "rolls"
The purple is just that thin strip next to the black and it's too dark to really tell the difference in those pictures.
Here's a closeup from warmups/stretching:

I have one question. I just got my smith pads and have had three ice sessions with them and one of my concerns is and im wondering if anyone else has had this issue. The outside wedge that pete adds folds when i butterfly. Is that normal? Also what could i do to maybe stop that. I wear my pants loose and they ride somewhat low bascally the knee are of the pad holds them from going any further. But if someone could help me out it would be great.
Thanks,
Ray

Could you possibly take a pic of what is happening so we could get a better understanding? It might help you solve your problem a bit faster.

If it is either one of the two "outside wedges" I am thinking of, they are designed to "fold" in the down position in order to allow your knee to move naturally, as well as get out of the way of your pants.
If it's the outside of the knee lock, you ban see it is stitched into sections to bend with the knee. If it is the top outer flap seen here (the small flap attached by the owner's name) Smith Hockey - Custom Goalie Equipment - SP 5000 Goal Pads it is there to protect the outside of your knee in a standing position and get out of the way in the fly.

To clairfy what im talking about im gonna use summitpro77 pad photo for an example since i dont have a camera at the moment to take a photo of my pads. Bascally that outer wedge panel that pete adds for me when i butterfly folds. After i get off the ice i just fold them back the opposite way so they are normal again. But what i want to know is that normal? or am i doing something wrong im not sure about that. Maybe this is more clearer any sort of help will be very apperciated.
Thanks,
Ray

Yeah, I agree with that. My blocks have compressed in the year (exactly, almost) that I've had the pads. So I need to add another layer. Time to go get some foam \
I've considered ordering another set, as there have been some changes that I like.
- He removed the outer fflap (upper). So it's more traditional now.
- The inside edge (top) is leather now, from what I've seen. Helps with wear/tear.
- Thicker foams on the stacks.
- No adjustable thigh rise. Great invention, but now that my pads have broken completely in, the foams tend to slide beside themselves and cause a "bump" to form. I've never adjusted mine anyways.

So if I understand you correctly, when you butterfly the outside calf wedge (the one that goes on the post) folds. That doesn't happen with my 5000s, you mentioned you wear your pads loose, if they ride down too far its probably the pants that are making the wedge fold. If it is not that, maybe your pads are too big -- your knee is lower in the pad than it should be . . . if your knee is sitting on the knee blocks, I don't see how that calf wedge would fold. Unless you have HUGE thighs.

Here's my new 5000's in practice. This is just my second time using them, and I think I'm getting them dialed in with the straps, thighboards, etc. I initially had way too much rotation ( pads pointing outward when I recovered ) but with some minor changes to my setup, I think I've fixed about 95% of it.
They're super light, slide like butter on a hot plate, and I finally match!
