Oh forgot that one, also tight on the knee lock. So more or less the same straping and setup as Cwarner's much more detailed description on all accounts.

I spent a lot of time last night adjusting the (nylon) straps on my new Smith 1000s. I found that even with the straps set as short as they will go, they are still loose. That's the way I wore my old Vaughns, but it seems that with the nylon straps on the Smiths, you have no choice but to wear them loose.

Here is a question. Before I spend 1k on something I would like to check it out. Which model, sizing, feel etc. Is there any way to see this equipment in person?

I stopped by Pete's shop prior to placing my order... but I was in Rochester, NY for a goalie camp last year, so I was in his neighborhood!

As for strapping, I've had my sp4000's for over a year now and I haven't touched the straps since my 3rd time on the ice... I have every strap loose, except for the knee cradle. The boot strap is in the 4th hole, which means it's relatively loose too. The toe bridge is tight to my skate with no knots.

And the reason is takes so long is that Pete makes all these pads himself! He has a few helpers but he does the bulk of the work on each and every piece of Smith gear. He doesn't outsource nor does he have a big facility. And because of his hard work and attention to detail, 99% of his customers swear by his gear and they tell their friends, post on forums, etc. which adds to his workload. He doesn't sacrifice quality for quantity... so when you order smith gear you get put on a waiting list... It may only take him a week or two to make a full set, but you have to understand that he has a lot of orders to fulfill.

I love my set of smiths!

strapping

I think my set up is very similar to what you described. Jerry, mine feel just like yours, tightened all the way but still loose. Seems to be the way they are worn. I'll just go with that. Thanks to all in the recent postings.

I'm in the 99%. SMITH GEAR IS WORTH THE WAIT, even if the wait kills you.

I bow before Lord Pete.

I got my email today saying that the pads shipped! I can't say how excited I am as I have always wanted a pair of Smiths but only recently can actually afford them. I will surely post pictures when I receive them.

The only strap I find needs to be tight is the knee lock.

If the knee lock is loose I sometimes slip off the knee landing and/or they over-rotate.

All the other straps can be loose. Had mine since March and haven't made any adjustments since then.

They are outstanding pads.

Great news, can't wait to see them. What model/colors did you get?

TT went with the new style pads today (and played much better, but lost in a SO). The white and yellow areas are swapped from what they were on the set he wore during preseason.

They look pretty good when you see them in action.

The kneerolls are just sewed lines. It adds a good texture to the pads. The colour scheme is AWSOME! Tim went through 3 pairs since the beginning of the season because he's experiencing different flex. From what I understood, The first pads he wore were like his last year's pads. Then he had some SP1000 made more flexible, he didn't like it, so he asked Pete for a super stiff pair (the one he wore yesterday), I think they're stiffer than the first set.

The graphic is surely original. It's something that stands out, in 1/5000 of seconds you can tell they're Smith pads.

Have you noticed that Tim is now wearing a new mage with a new paintjob?

G 4 Hire, are you going through the euphoric anxiety like I did when I was waiting for mine to arrive? You know, go to bed hoping they will arrive tomorrow, then tomorrow comes, and your edgy all day, ask the shipping guy what time deliveries come in, and then you see the box, break out in a sweat, and carefully, but quickly open the box, and your eyes get wide, and the permanent smile comes, when you see how awesome your new Smith gear is..Oh that was me last week. As good as any Christmas morning.
I played again last night did not adjust anything from last skate, and they just keep getting better.
Do you guys just push them(pads) back to square when you get a chance during a session? They rotate beautifully in b/f's, and then I like them as square as possible when I'm standing. Anybody do anything out of the ordinary to get them turned in or squarer on your leg when standing?(hope I explained that ok)
BTW I have them strapped exactly as you guys have PM ed and told me on this thread. (thanks again)
I think Tim's pads are sweeeet!!!! I was fortunate enough to watch him in college when he came near me to play Clarkson and St.Lawrence U(a rew years a go). He was outstanding in college too.

Thomas was carried in college by Perrin and St-Louis.

plus, i agree that this color combo for these pads are better than the previous ones only because the claw or swoosh marks (whatever you want to call them) have white highlights
