Ouch! The wait time right now is like 4 months?
Looks like I may have to go with TPSs or Vaughns

Hey, it's your dime but I can tell you they are well worth the wait.
Why by overpriced retail crap when you can get hand made custom?

All pro gear in retail store is hand made too. Just not custom fitted.

If we are talking about reasons to go with Pete over bigger brands, then I think customer service is perhaps the best reason. Custom ordering from a big name seems to be somewhat of a crapshoot and the outcome depends on who you order through. If the day ever comes when Pete makes a mistake on an order, you can bet he will do whatever it takes to fix the problem.

In other news, I got an email from Pete this morning saying my gear will ship on Friday . That will make it exactly 19 weeks from order to shipment.

Oh I definitely know Pete's gear is worth the wait. The only problem though is I just sold my C10s and 16 weeks wait(as Pete emailed me this morning) without pads is a long time. The only pads I have right now is my Mission prototypes that I use for dek/ball hockey. I've used them on ice before, but they're already starting to fall apart and the more I use them on ice the faster they're going to get torn up. What I might do is buy a set of Sr pads and use them in the meantime. Then by the time I get the Smith's my dek pads will prolly be ready to put to rest, the Srs will be broken in, and I'll just use the Srs for dek. Just sucks cuz I really don't want to shell out like $1500 for pads at the same time if I don't have to.

I was supposed to be getting a full set of Summits and a set of Xceeds or R8 leg pads for designing their customizers. Unfortunately the guy at TPS I was working with left the company to get married and no one ever returned my emails after the customizer was done.

**Edit: TPS finally came through sent me my full set of Summits. I've posted pix of them on the TPS Summit Thread

Do they have the customizer in hands? That would suck so bad.

Hey Chak,

My point was that it takes SKILLED hands to make quality gear, not just a pair of hands. I could probably make goalie pads too but I bet you wouldn't want them...some retail gear, even their "pro" line is of dubious quality at best. Ask anyone who recently bought and then dumped their RBK chest protector!

Yes but that's because the RBK c/a is made in China. I don't think that Chineese children who make the gear know what it's for! LOL Pollitical statement.

A strong one at that Chakal .

Not to take away from their work force, but shouldn't goalie gear be manufactured by people who KNOW hockey? At least they can spot weaknesses and correct them before they hit the shelves.

It takes skilled hands for sure, but guys, it's not rocket science.

Making goalie equipment isn't rocket science. It's the designing that requires some smarts.

Honestly, taking material and sewing it together isn't difficult. The hard part is figuring out how big this piece should be, and how is "A" going to interact with "B". If someone takes an existing design and adapts it to their needs or desires, anyone can make a set of pads. That's why a lot of companies are making similar products now. They are easier to make since there are established products that are shown to work. Why do you think everyone cloned the Smith/Velo pads when they first came out? It worked and they were easy to replicate. There are a few companies, who design from the ground up, and I think more and more that is what is happening, but in the past there was a lot of copying. There still is depending on what companies we are talking about, but it's not as bad as it was in the early 2000's.

Wink Production schedule update...

Hi guys,

Just an update for those of you waiting for their order to be processed.

Pete just told me that my order is about to be put in production and should ship next week. I contacted Pete around June 20th, placed my order on June 27th (Pads + Gloves).

Carl

And in case anyone missed it above, my gear is shipping tomorrow!

They will make it here just in time for my playoffs (I just play a 6 game intramural season, followed by 5 games max playoffs...fortunately my team is undefeated and should get to the finals no sweat). Of course the questions is....do I wear my new gear for the first time during a single elimination playoff game??
