I have reviewed this thread all the way back to November (about page 62), and this is the only description I found of the 5000 pads. Is anyone able to provide more complete details, and/or a comparison with Smith's other pads?
I have a set of SP1000s I received last Fall. They are 32+2, but I still can't close up the 5-hole in the butterfly. Do the 5000s provide more closure, or would I be better off buying another set of SP1000s in 32+4?

They also have a new thigh board strapping system (you can see it in one of the pics a while back), a calf wedge, and are thinner. I haven't seen anything about any adjustable stiffness that laandrew mentioned but I could be wrong.

when i chatted with Pete awhile back (so i could be wrong ) he had told me that
him and Tim Thomas were talking about putting adjustable stiffness in the pads.
then tps came out with adjustable stiffness, so pete may have scarped the idea
but im not sure since it has been a while. wait a few weeks, or email him.
and on the adjustable thigh rise, He thought about doing it, but i guess hes not
going to put them on.

You have it right. I had the same info from Pete. It's just one of those things, evolution of gear that was bound and 2 different heads were on it, but one got it out first.
But, looking at the pad, i think Pete still came up with some original set-ups anyways.

Glove and Blocker
I just received my glove and blocker in the mail, Pete told me they were done and just one week later I went and picked them up.
Old glove and Blocker
I had CM9 that I bought through the goalie store, after five years they needed to be replaced. I have no complaints but in five years equipment have changed along with materials.
New glove and blocker
After seeing the Smith product on here and reading everyone's comments about them I bought the SP4000 pads last year. So this year I ordered the glove and blocker, I spoke to Pete so I could match up the gloves to my pads, he had my pad info on file and I left it up to him. I ordered on October 6th and were done on January 25th, just over three and half months.
I did ask for pro (thicker) palm, 1" deeper pocket, and green lettering (not on his customizer). I did not ask for any mods to the blocker.
Difference
Smith gloves are lighter but then again my CM9 are five years old so if I wanted a truely compare the weight between the two I should have an update CM9.
The break in my Smith glove is 100% better out of the box than my CM9. I can completely close it with less effort.
The fit is also better as Pete has extra straps holding your hand to the glove. With minor adjustments I am ready for my first game.
I have to say Pete is great to deal with, he did have e-mail problems but once he got it fixed he e-mailed me to make sure I gotten the ones that didn't get through. As to trusting him with the colors, he hit a home run, all white with a little bit of green on the back.
I am happier than walking into a whorehouse on payday

Sweet setup humanwall! They are pretty!
As for the 5000's and 5 hole closure, I have heard that the "adjustable thigh-rise" from the sp4000's is an add-on/mod that you can get on the new 5000's. Not sure what the up-charge is..
Oh, also, I posted a pic of my catcher earlier on this page, wanted to note that I got a 1" deeper pocket on it, so it's not exactly stock.

I can't remember a time when Pete ever charged $1200 for a set of 2000 pads. The dumbass is located in the states, so it's not like he paid Canadian for it.

FYI, Smith pads do not now and have never cost $1200 new. The current price, since June 2004, is $875. I believe they were $800 or 825 before that.

Let's see if he changes his listing.

My guess is that he won't change his listing because he's an ebay tool. He'll probably claim that he had a bunch of special mods to warrant the higher price.

Actually he can't claim that, because I also sent him a msg. To be sure he didn't get defensive about it or make things up, I only asked if he had any mods and didn't mention the price thing.
he replied:
the calf straps are leather i put an inch on the thigh rise i dont remeber everything i bought the pads when i was a sophmore in prep school and wore them that season played 10 games and wore them for the first two months the next season in jrs so theyre still in great shape to use as far as other mods nothing outrageous or id remember them but smith pads have alot of unique design aspects www.smithhockey.com will have all the info for the SP2000 model and history on his company

Those gloves look GREAT in white and green weave! Not a color combo you see everyday either!
