My mask restoration is complete

so what do you think?
New padding and new straps make a world of difference.
I would like to thank Van Veldan for foam and guidence.
and Matt at Promasque for his awesome snaps. they are stainless. and just snap and stay snapped. they are a huge upgrade over plastic crap.
I like Matt's system and next mask will probably go his route less work to just buy a new mask.
And of course my local Dodge dealer for an awesome paint job.

But i think it turned out ok.

Before (black/chrome cage)and after

Please let me know what you think.

Looks nice.

I'm not a huge fan of the white cages though.

Looks plasticy and cheap to me.

Jim I'm looking to restore my 960, did Van Veldan send you the foam or did you have to send your mask to him? Also how thick is the foam and was it pre cut? Your mask looks great.

Looks very nice Jim.

2 questions:
1) What mask is that ?
2) How much did the refurbish cost? (foam, straps, paint job.....just wondering )

Hans
This a Van Velden mask fiber/kevlar i am the second owner so not sure exact model was told it cost $300 new.
Foam and straps $45 buckle set $15 and $10 for new sweatbands total $70
local dodge dealer paint job absolutely free. the guy woundnt even let me pay for the paint. 2 coats of ppg and 1 coat clear.

so the big expense was time.. the foam came directly from Mr. Jerry Van Velden who was great and answered all my questions. but the foam arrived i think too big. so alot of cutting to make it fit just so
i put up a before pic (first one) and two after pics (middle and last). the new foam and straps that have some elastic in them make a world of difference.

the color was what the board thought looked better it was this or white mask blue cage. i had the stock stainless cage on it for a while that looks good too.
cheers
Jim

Did it myself very sharp razor blade, whole saw drill bit, and lots of patience.
i inserted the first piece of foam took a pencil and traced out the wholes that were needed and then moved forward.
it took a week.. working little each night on it. but i think it came out well. for the first mask referb i ever did.. if you have time go for it!

A cheap tool fpr cutting the holes in new foam is a peice of copper pipe made for plumbing. Sharpen the one end and twist the pipe into the padding and yer good, just make sure and get the right size pipe to match yer holes.
