The TPS Summit Thread

Hey guys,
I'm most likely getting a new full set of Summits soon so I figured I'd start this thread to get some input on them (pads, gloves, blockers, c/a, etc.). I loved many of the features I saw when I got to look at them at the Hockey Show in Boston, however I know you can't get all the info on gear just on looking at them alone. So I want to hear input from others out there who have actually gotten to use these pads, gloves, blockets, etc. I want to know what you like about them, what you hate about them, what mods you've made, what mods would change if you had the opportunity again, etc. Please go into detail too if you could. I know many people complain of problems butterflying with the Summit pad, well go into detail why you have problems butterflying with them: what the exact problem is, what's causing the problem, possible solutions to fix it, etc. I made a similar thread when I got my C10s and I'm sure glad I did. It made a world of difference. Thanks guys!
- Viva la Dink!

Dinkus, are you gear-whoring out or getting rid of the C10's?

HAHA Sorry Elite, I didnt even see it. Thanks for linking it though so I could read your thoughts on them.
This post is more to bring all the Summit users opinions together in one thread as well as get some other Summit users who might not normally post reviews out of the woodwork and post their thoughts on their gear.

Has anyone tried the Summit stick? How does the weight compare to most foam core sticks like the 9950 or H10?

NP. I've seen the Summit stick up close.. thing is ugly as hell. All of them are green. Ew. But play-wise, at first I thought it was VERY unbalanced. But as I stood there my arm quickly compensated. I was very surprised. I probably wouldn't use it but it didn't seem like a bad stick.

Summit Pads/Trapper Review: Long

well here we go: (ill post this again in Reviews

Pads-
i bought a pair about 4-5 months ago. Throughout these months my opinions have changed from i love these things to i f**king hate them lol but now that theyre nice and broken in i am gunna say that i really love mine. The pads are light as hell, very comfortable and completely customizable.

Rebound control on these babies is sweet, you can put the puck pretty much anywhere and theyre not too stiff so when you make a kick save you dont boot the puck out into the slot past the blue line lol.

Butterfly- very nice Bfly, only downside is that goddamn V shape for the 5-hole near the top, but as time goes on it keeps getting smaller but oh well. its really not a big deal cause the thigh boards stop anything thats gunna get through that small V and possibly squeek through. I have only let up 4 5-hole goals in 23 games with these things. That shows you something.

Leg Channel- its all about personal preference. I didnt think i would like the busy leg channel but i turned out to LOVE it. It gives GREAT calf support and is an overall comfy pad, wether its standing up or in a bfly or whatever.

Mobility and flexibility- i had these things completely broken in within a week, just constant work on them and flexing them and whatnot for maybe 5 days and everything was copesetic (sp?)

My blocker- Bauer Vapor so i wont comment on this as it isnt a Summit piece but i must say this thing is amazing so far!

Trapper- Summit as well. Absolutly LOVE this thing. Hands down the best trapper i have ever used/tried on. Compared to the ones i have used or tried on:

Eagle Fusion, CCM Heaton 10, Vaughn Velo, Vaughn Epic, Itech 11.8, Koho 580, and yes- the infamous Vaughn T5500

i honestly think this thing beats all of them out. Not by much, but overall it does. The closure of this thing is amazing, after you work in the glove for about 2-3 hours, wether it be on the ice or sitting watching TV (i did 5 hours total before i used it once)

Pocket- this thing is really deep and i have yet to have a puck pop out of this thing.

Protection- No stingers yet, enough said.

Closure- completely sealed, if you have the thing closed there is no way in hell the puck is gunna fall out.

*note: i really liked the additional wedge thing (i dunno what to call it) at the bottom of the glove for extra grip on your stick, it really works and blew my mind. I can grip my stick completely with my glove and if i really wanted to, i could use my catching hand to completely control my stick, thats how much control this thing gives*

overall: im extremely impressed, here are my scores:

Pads- 8/10 (5-hole could be better)
(Vapor) Blocker- 8/10 (maybe too light, lol, and not enough curve)
Trapper- 9.5/10

**sorry for the length of this, i didnt think it would be this long lol and sorry if the pics are too big**

here are some pics:

What size are they NJ? I'm guessing you're saying the thigh rise is remaining straight when you go down and you can't seem to get a decent S curve to them to help with 5-hole coveage? That would be my guess, but from your photo it doesnt look like theres a problem.

Right now the main mod I'm considering is an additional 1" on the thigh rise. They say there's already an extra 1" there, but from the looks of it there's not enough for my liking. I'm also curious to see if you can get them completely flat.

Hmmm.. odd. I guess I'd have to see it in person to identify the problem. Can you take a picture of your strapping (preferably off your leg) and maybe I can come up with something.

Personally, if there are apparent problems with 5 hole coverage, but you still like the style of the pad itself, i dont see why you just dont get velocities. haha after all the summits are a complete ripoff of them.

Outside they look like Velocities, but all the inner workings like the changeable leg channel, attached accordian Thighboards, strapping system, etc. are all completely unique.
