I bought a pair off eBay. The knee wings are Jenpro, and the calf wings are nylon. I really like the pads, but have some concerns regarding their durability. It is very obvious that my pads had seen a lot, and I mean a LOT of use by their previous owner. The only places where the Jenpro has worn through is where there was some piping in the stitching. The knee and calf lifts were stuffed with 1/2" open-cell polyurethane foam and 1" closed-cell polyethylene foam. The open-cell foam that was initially in the knee lifts had totally disintegrated into dust, and the closed-cell foam had been compressed beyond recovery. The same closed-cell foam is used in the face of the pad. On mine, the single piece of foam had been broken into about half a dozen pieces. The foam in the calf lifts was fine.
This photo shows a piece of the PE foam that was removed from the knee lifts. Initially, it was 1" thick as shown on the right. In places it was compressed to less than 1/4" thick. The yellow stuff on the face of the foam is what's left of the 1/2" PU foam.
Like I said, I like the Blockade Seniors. They perform great for me. I think that they are a good design, but I bought mine in the spring of 2006. I believe the Blockades were introduced in 2003, so mine couldn't have been very old. They have obviously seen a lot of use, and in my opinion, haven't stood up very well. However, who's to say that any other senior pad would have endured the same amount of use any better.
