CCM Blockade Senior Pads

I hope it is okay to post this thread. I am considering buying the CCM Blockade senior pads. I searched this forum and only found reviews on the Blockade pros. Does anyone have any experience with the Blockade senior pads? I cannot afford the pro pads right now so the seniors are my only option. I can get them new for $299. I tried them on and liked the way they fit but I would love any feedback I could get before I buy them. I am moving from some old I-Tech 4.8's.

First of, this is in the wrong forum! But, owning a pair of blockade seniors I thought I'd give my impressions

When you butterfly, the landing gear is so damn comfy you wouldn't belive it. They are really, really protective as well. They seem to under-rotate on me a fair bit (which is a bummer) but, I did have a boot strap break on me really early, and it's not been repaired yet. The thighboards close the 5-hole nicely though.

The nylon straps frayed on me pretty sharpish as well since the ends hadn't been burnt, but now they've been replaced they're great.

For the price, they're great pads...but I can't help feeling that for $100 or so more you could get a much, much better pad!

try looking into this years Itech 4.8 Prodigy pad. They have good knee protection, and overall 10x the pad the old ones were.

I've had a pair. I loved them they rotated very well for me, had excellent protection, but they 5 hole didn't close to well. Like the other guy said the landing gear is a dream to land on. A buddy of mine has a pair of these and the toe strap has broken twice on his pads but he puts it super tight so he ended up sewing two straps together. I agree for the the price of them they are an excellent purchase but if you can afford a hundred maybe two hundred more you can get a better pad, but these are not by any means a bad pad.

Can someone answer a ? for me please.

Is the outside calf wrap and knee wing nylon or clarino on these pads? I cant' recall. The area that touches the ice I'm being specific about. Reason is, I would like a pair for roller, and I don't want to stick. I have a set of ballistic nylon pads now, but I'd like to try these out.

If I recall there was jenpro on the knee wing, and it was a one-piece knee wing, all the way down from knee to ankle. There is nylon on the outside calf wrap, but not inside.

This is what I remember from my Blockade Pros, but maybe someone can give an answer that has the pads in front of them.

I bought a pair off eBay. The knee wings are Jenpro, and the calf wings are nylon. I really like the pads, but have some concerns regarding their durability. It is very obvious that my pads had seen a lot, and I mean a LOT of use by their previous owner. The only places where the Jenpro has worn through is where there was some piping in the stitching. The knee and calf lifts were stuffed with 1/2" open-cell polyurethane foam and 1" closed-cell polyethylene foam. The open-cell foam that was initially in the knee lifts had totally disintegrated into dust, and the closed-cell foam had been compressed beyond recovery. The same closed-cell foam is used in the face of the pad. On mine, the single piece of foam had been broken into about half a dozen pieces. The foam in the calf lifts was fine.

This photo shows a piece of the PE foam that was removed from the knee lifts. Initially, it was 1" thick as shown on the right. In places it was compressed to less than 1/4" thick. The yellow stuff on the face of the foam is what's left of the 1/2" PU foam.

Like I said, I like the Blockade Seniors. They perform great for me. I think that they are a good design, but I bought mine in the spring of 2006. I believe the Blockades were introduced in 2003, so mine couldn't have been very old. They have obviously seen a lot of use, and in my opinion, haven't stood up very well. However, who's to say that any other senior pad would have endured the same amount of use any better.
