How can you tell what year 5500 you have? Other than the slight change in the graphic from straight to curved.

i only had a brief stint with a 5500 a few years back, i'm pretty easy going with gloves, i change gear all the time, and they only glove i honestly haven't been able to use was the bauer supreme, every other glove i've adapted to and i've used a lot of gloves in my years ha.

Anybody here have a Vaughn glove with a Tri-Web?

If so how do you like it? Is there any real difference compared to a single or double?

I'm definitely getting new gear (gotta update my T4000 g/b and try some Vaughn pads for the first time).

There were some distinctly different features for different years. The cuff was changed, different pocket configurations, TekPad vs. GelTec vs. no gel in the palm at all, no cheater, graphics, wrist straps, etc...

I've used at least 6 different variations on the 5500. I'm looking forward to my pro spec that's going to put all yours to shame when it gets here!

soo.. i ordered my stuff 5 weeks ago and it came in today.
got a call from the shop and they told me that it had come in and everything about the order was wrong besides the size and the actual product.

My mods
EPIC BLOCKER
- outline of the stripes in red

VELO CATCHER
-colour all white, red trim, white lace
-red double T
-hd inserts in the t's
-pro foam
-pro logos
-reverse opening for the back

VELO PADS
-all white with bottom swirl in red outline
-knee breaks (little flaps between knee rolls) in red
-no tiger stripes
-square knee
-velcro system for knee stacks
-a single break at the knee
-pro transfers (logos)
-inside channel taken out

all embroided with my name

(WHAT I GOT)
EPIC BLOCKER
-full swirls in red (understandable)

VELO GLOVE
- reversed colours to what i wanted
-single t
-regular padding

PADS
-full coloured swirls
-tiger stripes
-standard breaks in outer knee roll
-standard knee
-no velcro for stacks
-inside channel
-knee rolls are red

no embroidery

now on a +/- note they might have to do it in pro sizing, and im a small guy and im in aus so we dont have to be doing that just yet. on the other hand they might enforce it in a year, so am i doing a good thing and increasing my skill or am i just making it harder for myself now that i don't have to ?

Sorry to hear about your order gsus...that really blows. How the heck did you get your gear in only a week though If you decide to go nhl size, I can tell you that I switched to all nhl size and ater only 6 games in the new gear I feel completely comfortable with it. To be honest the only thing I even noticed in the begining was the size differance in the glove, but now thats gone. The pads and blocker right off the bat felt completely normal. Hope that helps...

hey i editted. its 1:12 am i apologise it was meant to say 5 weeks!
so 5 weeks ago...

u didnt notice any skip over just over ur pad when u were in butterfly? thats what im worried about mostly cos as i said i am small so i need as much coverage as possible
i hope u see my concern where i will basically be the only goalie in my league with 11" so i was just concerned.

Oh ok lol, 5 weeks is still really fast I can honestly say that I have not noticed any skip over at all. I don't know if it's just that when in my butterfly I maybe keep my hands a bit lower to make up for that 1" diffeance or what. Like I said, the only problem I had at first was with the glove. With the smaller glove you really need to catch the puck in the pocket. Other than that, everything feels normal to me. I am in the same boat as you though. I did not need to switch but just felt like it due to my size (only 5'8") and wanted to gain a little mobility.

Here are the gloves:

They are pro sized. The velo glove is a bit different,i like the closure, i just wish they would fix the angle your thumb sits in the glove. I don't think i will have any problems with the glove though. When i first put on the 580 i couldn't believe how horrible it felt but after time i learned to love it.

Love the gloves!! They look great and the NHL size on the Velo is the way to go. One thing I noticed is that on NHL spec V2 blockers, Vaughn flattened out the thumb ridge a bit. My blocker has the old thumb ridge but yet my blocker has the NHL tag sewn on it. I wonder if Vaughn made a mistake by putting the tag on there?
