New Vaughn Stuff
Hey guys,
I'm a big fan of vaughn gear. I've been using it for years and really enjoy checking out this thread. I just ordered a new 5500 C/A and V2 7000 pants. Both custom, to replace current 5500 and V2s. I'm not to thrilled about the eight week wait though. Oh well.

Three problems
I quite like Vaughn gear (on my third set of V2's) but have three problems I'm wondering if others have encountered and if they have a fix:
1) The Always wings at the bottom of the leg channel of the V2 seem to get mangled and folder over. What is the function of this piece? Has anyone removed it? Did it make a difference?
2) The knee lock material feels nice and wide when new, very comfy, but over time it bunches up and the profile thins, causing it to dig into the back of the knee when tight enough to serve the purpose of keeping your knee on the landing gear when you go down. Aside from replacing the elastic knee lock straps (with the two tabs of velcro) has anyone found a way to keep them from bunching or tried putting something over top of them (like those neck pads from a seat belt perhaps?) that make them dig in less?
3) The V2 blocker I purchased new had stitching in the fingers that started to unravel in just the second time it saw the ice, and I've repaired several areas (not worth returning it for something to simple). Is this a common problem or did I just get a lemon? There were no burrs or sharp edges on the stick I was using that would have cut the thread in the three different places it started to come apart.

After using my new V2 pads for a few weeks, thought I'd address some issues. Pictures are a few pages back.
I really like the pads, they are great. Although I do question some of the quality.
After my first ice session, the stitching totally came out of the top strap where it connects to my pad, on the left one. Not a big deal, but annoying, had to restich it by hand. I also noticed after the first few times on the ice, that the logos on the face of the pad started to peel and slide off. Also not a huge deal but now I'm going to have to finish the job as one pad reads "AUGHN" and the other "UGH". And I actually liked the logo on the face. Oh well.
No huge issues but then again, should I be worried? I have hardly had these for a month.

LePage's PolyPeel works great to remove the Vaughn logos.
Full strenght on a cloth, rub on, peel off.

(personaly I'd leave just the UGH logos. LOL)
(sorry, couldn't resist)

1) I have that exact problem. The thing drives me nuts (see my review I just posted).
2) I'm also trying to figure out a better material. The strap is too long as it is, and then the elastic weakens, making it worse. Again, see review

I have had 4 different Velocity blockers and I've never had that problem. You probably just got a flukey one. The palms on the Velo blockers are some of the most durable I've ever used.

Vaughn thigh rises
A few questions for the Velo 2 experts.
1 )Thinking about new V2's - and I'm new to the whole thigh rise thing. Seems fine enough, but with my current size 35 V1s the thigh boards occasionally get caught in my pants...very annoying. So if I get 35's again with a thigh rise I worry that the problem will be made worse. No?
2) I almost want to get size 34 +1 ... I fit perfectly into those, but I know the pads will srink over time making the pads feel a bit small. In the 35's my knee started near the bottom of the knee wing, but after 3 years they are now pretty perfect. Still I wonder if the smaller size will have some benefits...faster recovery's or better movement on the ice.
3) One issue that I have with my V1's is that it seems difficult to move around or recover once I'm fully down. Not impossible, but it takes a lot of effort. I wonder if that has improved on the V2 because of the stabilizer. Also I have heard that having the knee wing modded to be squared off will also make a difference. Thoughts?
Thanks

never had any issues, the only thing that sucks about vaughn pads now is the tiger stripes, the stitching inevitably comes undone, next time i'd order without. (i sold my vaughns about a year ago)
best pads ever, comfortable and protective, actually made me regret buying my MAF BEEROXERS.

It would save you the trouble of taking them off, if that was something you would want to do. I know some people have them removed, so...

I don't mind them, but I plan on having my next pads for several years and would hate to have them rip off.

Anyone have a set of V2's they are looking to trade?
I have a Itech Prodigy 9.8(2006) set that I'm looking to trade. Check my post in the equipment classifieds.
If you're looking to try something new, give me a shout.
