Ive been using the same 1400 mask for going on around 3 years. Ive used it in both ice and roller and it's seen some rockets, and I haven't felt a thing. I don't know what all the grips are about. From my experience with it, as long as you're not facing 90 mph shots every game you should be fine.

hmm your SN is itech and you just joined. i smell troll.

With all of the first person accounts of this mask failing I think it is well known this mask has serious issues. You do not hear about these issues from other masks close in price range like the NXi........

No, it isn't. Grab it by the cheeks and queeze. It's squishy. That's at room temperature. How will the plastic stiffen up in the cold? The testing procedure includes putting the mask in a refrigerator for a while, but I just would not trust that mask.

I already discovered that the hard way and have swapped masks within a day of this thread.

Got myself the Vaughn 5500 Kevlar Re-inforced mask.

Ok, don't crucify me if this already was mention. The search isn't working for me...'Page Not Found' comes up.

But would this mask be considered a widowmaker:
http://www.hockeygiant.com/tpsgm1std.html

Similar price range...seems to be made of aramid fiber and carbon graphite fiber. Sounds like a description for a regular hockey stick. But with all that sounds suspicious to me cause of the low price, and also hockey sticks made with those materials break at a pretty large rate.

I'm not a troll, I just like itech equipment, lol. If you don't believe me I could always take pics of the helmet, just pm me. If I was really a troll, why would I promote itech products with the s/n itech? That would be screaming troll..

itech website says that the masks are made out of "LExan poly carbonate" is that just a fancy word for plastic?

pretty much. Lexan is the plastic that is commonly used in danglers.

Lexan is a product family. The formulation that produces the dangler is not going to be the same as the one going into the mask.

Plastic is a very nebulous term. You can have plastic film you can poke your finger through to plastic sheets you wouldn't be able to drill through.

That's not 'plastic' per se. Its a fiberglass type composite. Without commenting on the particular mask one way or another, the aramid (often Kevlar) composite products are generally considered better than the polycarbonate resin 'plastic' products.

Personally...other than the significant fact I know nothing about the TPS helmet....that looks like a good deal.

I just went from an Olie "plastic" mask.....that in MHO was a decent mask for the price.....to the TPS GM1.
MUCH BETTER mask......light, solid feeling, good snug fit, and excellent vision......I did add a cat-eye cage.
