not trying to sound all tough but I know for a fact he uses at least 2 sticks a game. I've seen it done, if some players in the NHL used the same stick then (1) there would be a tone of broken sticks during a game and (2) the NHL wouldn't be in debt partially due to equipment needs. (part 2 did come from a very credible source and I can't go into detail sorry I know It sounds gay). - Hypothetical- if 1 one-piece stick costs $180 @ cost (which is usually what pro teams get them for) it has been documented that players go through at least 4 sticks per game. so $180 * 87 games =$15,660 in sticks for ONE player, lets say there are 28 players on a team =$438,480. Lets add the goalie sticks now. Custom goalie sticks for pro's cost @cost about $50, since they face high velocity shots on an average basis they have been documented as going through at least 1 stick per period. so $50* 3= $150. Now lets give him about 2 extra sticks incase 2 break, it has happened =$250. now lets say he plays 65 games in the 87 games REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE =$16250. That is just for one goalie les add the remaining games and total money for the back up $250 * 22 games = $5500. Lets add all that up. $438,480 + $16,250 + $5,500= $460,230 are being spent just on sticks alone, JUST FOR GAMES IN THE REGULAR SEASON... this does not take into the fact that they practice just about everyday, and some teams go to the playoffs, however they do make some money in the playoffs.
Original point being about Millers sticks... he does do the puck thing, his own superstition, I've actually seen it, but I did want to try an educate the open minded about how many sticks guy in "the show" actually go through. sorry if I came off as obnoxious I didn't try to be just wanted to help ya'll understand things a bit better

yes, and pros dont pay 180 bucks for a stick either. the cost of a stick from a company is about 100 bucks if the price tag in stores is 180. also, im pretty sure that teams get them for free because companys want NHLers to use their sticks

i told you the facts as I know them and have been told by NHL equipment managers, disagree with them if you want but I did give you the facts.
and just so you know, The teams do have to pay for sticks and gear and it doesn't come as cheap as you all think. you have to remember these are not things you can get in your neighborhood proshop, these are things that have been made however these guys want so it is more expensive, but

composite
I don't know it for a fact, but in the new goalie news there is an article about Montreal sticks where they comment about how Martin Biron started using his Nitro "for the first time in the first of a franchise-record 13-game winning streak that ended the same night the stick finally broke". So according to that with the new composite goalie sticks nhl goalies will use about 1/40 the amount of sticks. (if you use the one stick a period counting from the above post).
Edit: Maybe its just me but the 270 sticks that a goalie would need just for games a season seems a little high also, they would need new shipments almost every week.

$16,000 a year on sticks per player... BIG DEAL. Honestly, NHL teams pay their players more to go and take a dump then that. This would not make the NHL go into debt.

Free Gear for pros
No well known NHL players pay for their gear. The gear companies are the one's who pay the players for endorsing their gear. One of my former goalie instructors Dov Grummet Morris who played for Harvard, and now is in the AHL/ECHL told me that the equipment companies all line up in the college arenas trying to get people to wear thier gear. Giving pro's and other players that are in the spotlight free gear, is their main form of advertisement, because if joe shmoe sees Chris pronger using RBK, then they will want to try rbk gear. If someone sees Ryan Miller using custom ccm vector gear, they want them.
